I predict two weeks before it is removed forcibly or destroyed because it has nothing to fo with religion or the worship thereof and is all about mockery of Christianity and blasphemy. The children are the most telling part. No child would walk up to a beast like that in real life. In the Satanic bible it teaches that Man is just another animal and is not elevated above other animals which is clearly a lie. This statue is also a metaphor for that.
If you saw the photo of the nerds that pit this together you’d know its just an athiest prank. They don’t believe in any gods.

Anyone got a pic of these nerds? iId look them up but I’m just posting this on a break before I have to go back to work on a few cases...

Typically, I look askance at people who yell "Blasphemy!!" at everything they disagree with or just don't understand. Strikes me as misuse of the word to equate (for instance) "Harry Potter" pop culture novels, with something that is truly offensive to God, and Christianity. It cheapens the word.

However, in this particular case, "Blasphemy" is warranted and completely accurate.

Our culture is fast sinking into the pit, when events like this are not only allowed, but tolerated. "Celebrated" is a short couple of steps away, IMO.

“He go by Legba now...”

I think the old blues man was looking for Legba, and he had changed his name to Scratch.

I am familiar with paranormal hauntings. When a demon possesses a house or a building a lot of times it will show itself as a child.

> So..... When will the angry Christian mobs violently riot to protest this affront?

Just sayin’.

The whole fiaso is a joke. In fact I bet they want Christians to deface it and protest just so they can say, “Look t what the Christians are doing. They’re protesting say than Christianity is a real religion and Satanism us not. How intolerant they are”. You have to keep the current un-Christian, athiest / agnistic mindset of the public who don’t have a clue what Christianity is really about.

Instead I see a great opportunity to hand out free bibles to people who come to see it for how childish and ludicrous it really is.

I have gotten a lot of mileage out of the Lord’s mention in the Revelation of “Satan’s so-called deep secrets”. Christians in their right mind KNOW there is only one source behind everything false. Nothing deep or mysterious about the failed usurper known as Satan.

Is there power there? Yes, but the believer must know that it is power GIVEN BY GOD for HIS purposes (to buffet, to punish, to deceive the unbelieving). The symbolism of the demonic has no power over a believer who knows his impenetrable position in Christ.

Hi again,

didn’t mean to trample you as I rode to the defense of Washington—George, I mean, or the sculptor Greenough. It was commissioned in the days of the Greek Revival, and Athens was all the rage. Everything painted or sculpted in those days emulated Greek and Roman art, reflecting the esteem they had for Democracy, Republican virtue, jurisprudence, etc.

It’s interesting that Babhomet was not originally associated with Satan. He did embody the rationalists and materialists views of Levy, and was central to an occult but essentially well-intentioned following. I guess it was the understanding that good intentions pave the road to hell that prompted the nut-case Levay to adopt him for his “church of satan.”

Iconography is an interesting thing—people continue to use motifs and designs long after anyone can remember if, or what they refer to, and forgotten can be pressed into service of some completely foreign interpretation. I had a student once who was from India. He’d produced some art that was obviously based on the swastika. I asked him why and he replied: “that belonged to my culture and Hitler robbed it from us.” Hitler was adept at that sort of thing. Obama’s campaign did much the same thing.

I didn’t mean to imply the Washington statue was supposed to be Baphomet. I was noting the occultic pose was the same.

Thank you for the clarification.

Also, Zeus isn’t as offensive to our eyes, but he’s no less a false god than Baphomet. The God of the Bible is a jealous God. I don’t think he laughs at the pagan statues decorating our capitol buildings and court houses.

I don't know what to think about this aspect. On the one hand, artists in the past have tried to use from powerful images from history to draw parallels with the heroes they were trying to portray. People who saw the art were not always aware of the background of the pose or whatever. On the other hand, an idol is an idol.

It’s about time people started taking the Devil and his minions seriously. His best move was pretending he didn’t exist.

As with so much of the symbology of secret societies and mystery religions, that pose likely had both an esoteric and an exoteric meaning. I’m sure the people who designed and commissioned the statue understood both. And had he still been alive, I’m fairly certain Washington would have understood as well.

The real picture or symbol of the devil is baphomet.
One hand is pointing into the sky, the other pointing to the world below.
He, or it is also transgender, has parts of male, other parts female.
Just like the liberals, the left, the media, they want to blur the lines of what is.
