“I think that the Republican Party, in order to get bigger, will have to agree to disagree on social issues,” Paul advised. “The Republican Party is not going to give up on having quite a few people who do believe in traditional marriage. But the Republican Party also has to find a place for young people and others who don’t want to be festooned by those issues.”

First, I challenge you to explain how the word “festoon” is used in this context. I had to google it and still don’t understand. Secondly, I don’t uses issues like like NSA/privacy, etc to strike a chord with younger voters is bad idea. He is not proposing changing the platform. After eight years of Bush and his “no child left behind”, “Islam is a religion of peace”, DHS gestapo, etc, it seems a little bit unfair of labeling Paul some kind of leftist. His record has been staunchly conservative. Dubya was pro-choice when he ran for congress.

What are you talking about?

The quote addresses gay marriage and moving left on social issues, not NSA, and that is a statement to change the party platform and agenda, not merely to ignore it.

As far as your man using “festooned”, hey, he is your man.
