Have head that tomorrow, September 8, parish priests, on order from their dioceses, will give homilies that unabashadly advocate amnesty for illegal aliens, that is, support the Obama administration's policy in this area. Last week's homily was, in my church, a taste of this; the priest worked (snuck?) the subject of immigration and immigrants into the homily. Since I've returned to the faith from a somewhat lapsed status over 4 years ago, I've endeavored not to miss any days of obligation. But I remember way back in 1982 when a priest gave an over-the-top homily supporting the nuclear "freeze" movement. I do not want to ever sit through something like that again. If I do, I will simply get up and walk out of church.
You'd be wrong there. How you can equate immigration laws with the lives of preborn children is beyond me. There is no moral comparison.
Like all believing Catholics, I'm at Mass to receive Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament, not to hear a sermon on politics. But I've heard much stupider things from the mouths of priests than talk of immigration reform.
As I stated before, there was no talk of immigration at our Vigil Mass this evening. And I don't even think it would have been very controversial in my parish. I attend a parish of mostly one percenters and my impression is most of them don't care one way or the other about immigration reform. They certainly seem to have a don't ask, don't tell policy with their gardners and cleaning ladies.
Oh, I definitely misspoke! Of course, wine is changed into the blood of Christ. What a mistake, lol!
That’s interesting. I think many Protestants and Jews would be shocked if they knew the truth about how much Catholics ever talk about them—hardly at all!
The Catholic church has taken a firm stand against abortion, homosexuality, and gay marriage. I see Protestant churches embracing these sins. Perhaps we are poisoning the KoolAid as well. Neither the Catholic nor the Protestant churches have innocent pasts, nor do we have innocent futures. We are churches made up of humans; therefore, sins are going to happen.
Jumping on these threads and spouting off about how your interpretation of the Bible is better than everybody else’s is simply childish and embarrassing.
Most times when the bishop has sent a letter our pastor either a) sticks it in the bulletin or b) reads it after Mass but before the recessional hymn and some folks definitely do leave.
I did enjoy your anecdote. The part about your synagogue becoming a mosque is interesting (if disappointing).
There is protocol, and there is true Religion.
To choose true Religion over protocol is never wrong.

>> Its how we finish the race. . . no matter what denomination.
AMEN
In the face of the Satanic evil of Islam — the REAL heresy — we need Christian unity, not division.
God bless you.
Beautiful, very short yet thorough, and doable, you already wrote the script!
Thank you. We are as fallible and as forgiven as Peter was. We can admit to no more and pray for no less. To think otherwise is to be overshadowed by the darkness which we must all fight against.
“Jesus loves us immensely and asks us to trust and follow him.” and He loves us despite what we have done to fractionalize ourselves from being united in Him.
Wow, that is arrogant. I bet that made the poor folks who couldn’t contribute any more feel welcome. Or the little kids who only have a quarter in their pocket but want to feel like they are helping.
Hmmm... that's not the Francis I have read.
I'm a Protestant but I find much enlightenment in the teachings of Pope Francis. So far, anyway.
I know my Bible well enough to discern the difference if he starts preaching counter to Scripture. Until that day...
"15 Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. 16 The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice."
Philippians 1:15-18 (ESV)
Not sure where you are from, but now might be a good time to check out a Southern Baptist Church.
Have you ever stood outside an abortion chamber and beg for the life of a child? If Father read the letter would you have stood up and said “Jobs for Americans First?
Where the devil do you live that a priest visits only twice a month?
It’s sad sometimes when my Jewish friends have told me how I must have heard anti-Semitism during the Mass or in Catholic school. The late, great mayor of NYC, Ed Koch, used to natter on about this. I was bewildered at first because I never heard Jews or Protestants mentioned in a negative way at all! Of course, I never heard them mentioned at all, which might have been the problem, lol!
Exactly!
I wouldn’t go to mass to listen to propaganda.
2241 The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.
Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.
