Featured Term (selected at random):

PRIMER

The ordinary prayer book in use by the laity of England before the Reformation. It contained the Little Office of Our Lady, Vespers, and the Penitential and Gradual Psalms, as well as the Pater Noster, Ave, Credo, and other prayers. Sometimes an alphabet was placed in the book's preface so that the primer could be used in teaching children to read.
