Our First American Pope

Vatican City — I can’t tell you how tremendous it was to stand in St. Peter’s Square and hear Pope Francis speak Spanish to the crowd, as Romans continued through the streets to hear their new Holy Father!

And it is hard to describe to you the emotions in the square as the white smoke rose. Screaming. Crying. Cheering. Praying. Love. People talked about how blessed they were as they waited. Ready to welcome their “papa” — before even knowing who he was.

Earlier this year I attended a conference on the Church in America, and one thing that became jarringly clear is that Americans need some unity and healing on the continent. Even in some parishes in the United States where there are English and Spanish speakers, the communities keep to themselves too often.

Please read....Truly his selection was directed by God.

A friend described Francis’s voice over the Square, to the world, tonight as a “soft whisper of love.” How the world could use such a soothing sound from someone whose witness offers us a challenge.

A "soft whisper of love" is beautiful. (Thank you for the article.) I read Pope Francis opened today with prayer as he mentioned yesterday was his intention:
VATICAN CITY -- Pope Francis opened his first morning as pontiff by praying Thursday at Rome's main basilica dedicated to the Virgin Mary, a day after cardinals elected him the first pope from the Americas in a bid to revive a Catholic Church in crisis and give it a preacher with a humble touch.

The former archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, entered the St. Mary Major basilica through a side entrance just after 8 a.m. (0700 GMT) and left about 30 minutes later. http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/03/13/3283138/black-smoke-from-sistine-chapel.html#storylink=cpy
We must all remember to take more time to pray for this humble, holy warrior for G-d.

You think?

European “Christians”, for example the one claiming that the wrong people won at the battle of Vienna, are jubilant that the conservatives are too stupid to have sniffed their trojan horse.

NOW, they’ll have Change.

Otherwise I’m sure she’d think of Italian-Argentinians as being somehow alien and foreign to the rest of hispano-America.

I was joiking with my parish priest after the Lenten daily mass of saying that during the little over the one hour the folks were waiting for Pope Francis I to present himself saying to my parish pastor that the new Pope was calling the Rome bus system to ask for the bus routes information with the funny part that he is new to Rome and just got this new job; since he took the bus back home in Argentina. :)

God worked a miracle yesterday. :)
