The Rosary

by Sebastian R. Fama

The Rosary consists of the Apostle's Creed, which is a statement of Christian belief, the Lord's prayer, which was uttered by Jesus in Luke 11:2-4, the Glory Be, which is a prayer that glorifies the Trinity, the Hail Mary, and the Mysteries.

The Hail Mary and the Mysteries are probably the two parts that are the most misunderstood by non-Catholics. However, they are both very scriptural. In Psalm 143:5 we read, "I remember the days of old, I meditate on all that thou hast done, I muse on what thy hands have wrought." Eighteen of the twenty Mysteries are meditations on the life, passion and death of Jesus Christ.

As for the Hail Mary, we begin by recognizing the uniqueness of Mary: "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee." In doing this we are not exaggerating, as we use the words of God as spoken by the angel Gabriel in Luke 1:28. Next we utter the first recorded words of praise for Jesus in the New Testament. They come from Luke 1:42. Mary has gone to visit her cousin Elizabeth. Upon her arrival, Elizabeth proclaims, "Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb" (Jesus). Finally we ask Mary's intercession. In short, we address Mary as God does, we praise Jesus, and we ask Mary to pray for and with us.

That those in heaven are connected to us is illustrated in 1 Corinthians 12:26: "If one member suffers, all suffer together; If one member is honored, all rejoice together." And in Romans 12:5: "So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another." Does Jesus have one body in heaven and one body on earth? Of course not, and that is why 1 Timothy 2:1 applies to all members of the body, "That supplications, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be made for all men."

Consider Revelation 5:8 where heavenly intercession is spoken of: "The four living creatures and the twenty four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." The word "saints" refers to believers. In Revelation 8:3-4 we see the same thing, "Another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne. And the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God." So the prayers of the saints are identified as incense, and an angel is adding incense (his prayers) to that which the saints have offered and then he offers it all up to God.

In 2 Maccabees 4:34 Onias the High Priest is murdered. Later, in 15:11-16, we are told that he appeared in a vision to Judas Maccabeus along with the prophet Jeremiah, who had died centuries earlier. In verse 14 we learn that the saints in heaven can and do pray for those of us still on earth. "And Onias spoke, saying, 'This is a man who loves the brethren and prays much for the people and the holy city, Jeremiah the prophet of God.'"

Because the Rosary is repetitious, Matthew 6:7 is often used in an attempt to refute it. The KJV words it this way: "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." Jesus did not condemn repetition He condemned vain repetition. "Praise God" or "Amen" can be vain repetition if not said from the heart. Was Paul wrong in telling the Ephesians to "Address one another [in] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs" (5:19)? Are we to believe that psalms can only be recited once and that songs can only be sung once? Did God violate his own principals in Psalm 150, when in a short span of six verses we read "praise the Lord," "praise God" or "praise him" thirteen times (150:1-6)? Of course not! Look at verses 5-6 of Matthew 6. Here Jesus seems to be condemning praying aloud in public. However, a close examination reveals that He is not condemning public prayer but hypocritical public prayer. Likewise, in verse 7, He does not condemn repetitious prayer but hypocritical repetitious prayer.

Saint Louis de Montfort, “The Secret Of The Rosary.”

The Handbook of Indulgences Norms and Grants =
“A plenary indulgence is granted when the rosary is recited in a church or oratory or when it is recited in a family, a religious community, or a pious association. A partial indulgence is granted for its recitation in all other circumstances.”

There be a whole bunch of quotes & PROMISES about the Rosary given by >The Saints. According to my booklet, Saint Mary promised Saint Dominic and Blessed Alan,
#3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armour against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
#7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall >not die without the sacraments of the Church.
For the very good Catholics who die to self & pray for the salvation of other people = #11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
My booklet has an imprimatur under the 15 promises of the Rosary (One for a Priest to explain). Saint Mary also said to Saint Dominic, “One Day through the Rosary and Scapular I will save the World.” At >Fatima, Saint Mary said, “I am the Lady of the Rosary.”

Saint Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort, “The Rosary is the most powerful weapon to touch the Heart of Jesus, Our Redeemer, who so loves His Mother.” Saint Padre Pio: “The rosary is THE WEAPON.” Blessed Pope John Paul II: “Blessed Rosary of Mary, sweet chain linking us to God.”

The Rosary as a >personal devotion is a real good prayer. A real good daily prayer, especially if you want to get into Heaven & take your family with you! +The Rosary will help build the Church & help “Save the World.”

Hi Sal-Two weeks ago I was praying when I heard a voice of one of my brothers mumbling like he was hurt in the other room. No body else was in the house. He lives in N.Y. I live in Georgia.

So right away I called him. He had the Flu real bad. He talked hoarse and heavy. I told him his angel had his voice mumble to me. He believed. I told him to say his prayers I do not want to lose him. He had an appointment to the doctor.

That night I was praying intentions for him. I was also in the Spirit very heavy like busting.

That night he took two conflicting medicines by accident in the morning he was rushed to the doctor. He is alright now. Thank you Lord Jesus! Amen!!

John 14:1-2 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.

Philippians 4:6-7

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Jesus warned about it before hand so I could pray it through with Jesus and The Heavenly Host.

Psalm 46

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."

YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN!! LOL!!! AMEN!!

God is Good!

Praise Jesus and Hail Mary!! Heavenly Host Pray for us!

AMEN!!!!!

Good grief, I wish I knew why doctors would even issue conflicting drugs. It happened to one of my children, but I caught it and reported it to the company.

Never saw that person again.

O.k., at risk, I’ll way in here. Yea, I’ve heard the complaint about the rosary being repititious. Deal is however that I strongly suspect most people don’t know how to pray the rosary. Praying the rosary is a lot more involved than simply saying the prayers of the beads themselves. To pray the rosary properly, the prayers are said, or recited, while, at the same time the person praying the rosary is supposed to meditate on the mystery of the decade of the rosary being prayed. So, for example, see: http://www.catholic.org/clife/prayers/mystery.php

Then click on the first mystery, the Annunciation: you’ll find written there: “My children, be always open to seek the will of God in your life no matter what it is. Never be afraid of God’s will. God’s will always does contain suffering but God’s will also brings peace. God’s will contains Joy. Pray to the Heavenly Father: pray that He will give you the grace through my prayers to accept His will in all things. Place yourself at God’s disposal and He will do great things for you and with you.” So, we are to pray the decade while meditating on the meaning of the Annunciation to Mary, to Jesus, to all of us.

Now, the problem with all of this, other than the fact that most don’t realize what we’re supposed to do while saying the rosary is that its extremely difficult to recite the prayers while at the same time, (with your “one” mind”)actively meditating on the meaning of the mystery. But it is that very difficulty which makes the Rosary more than just a string of repitituous prayers and makes it an “active mental voice” meditation. The power of the event is in the meditation itself. In the trying and mastery of the acts of “meditating on one thing while simultaneously reciting prayers” one finds themselves moving ever more closely and more deeply to the Presence of the Living Word.

I don’t have the time or the vocabulary to describe the “effect” of the effort.........uh, I guess its more like one of those, “you had to be there” moments to actually get what I’m trying to describe.

Try it, You’ll Like It! Oh, and after you do that a couple of times, it suddenly dawns on you the why of the beads! (your brain can’t pray one thing, meditate on another and COUNT, at the same time-——we do have limits)!

Tradition has long connected Saint Dominic and his Order with the preaching of the Rosary. Dominic’s followers have been called the “Friars of Mary.” The fifteen-decade Rosary adorns their habit with the frequent reminder that they are united to the Son of God in the living presence of our Blessed Mother.

Pray the Rosary.
Pray without ceasing.
