U.S. bishops ‘express concerns’ about Obama mandate ‘accommodation’

February 10, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The following statement was just released in response to the Obama adminstration’s announcement this morning that it is putting in place an “accommodation” to take into account religious liberty on their birth control mandate:

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) sees initial opportunities in preserving the principle of religious freedom after President Obama’s announcement today. But the Conference continues to express concerns. “While there may be an openness to respond to some of our concerns, we reserve judgment on the details until we have them,” said Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

‘The past three weeks have witnessed a remarkable unity of Americans from all religions or none at all worried about the erosion of religious freedom and governmental intrusion into issues of faith and morals,” he said.

‘Today’s decision to revise how individuals obtain services that are morally objectionable to religious entities and people of faith is a first step in the right direction,” Cardinal-designate Dolan said. “We hope to work with the Administration to guarantee that Americans’ consciences and our religious freedom are not harmed by these regulations.”

This “accomodation” is just another deceit.

On another thread today are these words:

“Mr. President, mere accounting tricks will not suffice,” Dr. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission wrote in a statement e-mailed to LifeSiteNews.com. “You have given your fellow citizens’ cry of conscience the dismissive back of your hand by offering them not a solution.”

He called the new policy, which would not force parachurch groups to provide such pharmaceuticals “directly,” as “a distinction without a difference.”

“The president’s failure to grasp the seriousness of this issue reveals a dangerous presidential blind spot concerning First Amendment constitutional religious free exercise guarantees,” he wrote. “It also highlights the wisdom of our forefathers who bequeathed to us a legislative system that is supposed to pass laws with the consent of the governed through their elected representatives, rather than being governed by executive branch imperial edicts passed down from on high.”

Sean Hannity said it best today. Obozo has painted himself into a corner with this one.

I would give a lot to hear Cardinal-designate. Dolan grow some balls and tell Obama to stick his lying compromise up his ass.

Thats what this compromise is—a lie.

It doesn’t do anything except provide Catholic clergy with cover if they decide to do it.

A cover that even the most stupid Catholic can see right through. If the Cardinal-designate buys this he should stay home and forget about leading his Church as a Cardinal. He will have sold us out.

When will the bishops realize that Obama is a baby-killing maggot, whose dearest wish is to impose abortion on everyone, and make every taxpayer pay for it?

The presumption should not be that Obama has nicely modified his original plans, but they want to see the details. The presumption should be that he intends to go ahead with the worst possible state-mandated abortion laws, and make all of us pay for it.

And, indeed, it doesn’t take more than a glance at the new proposal to see that it is no better than the original plan.

The bishops had better also wake up and demand that Obama drop his mandate that ALL HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS must include payments for contraception and abortion. Unless that is mandate is removed as well, where on earth will any faithful Catholic turn to buy health insurance? What good does it do to pretend to give people a choice, and then remove the choice?

Wake up. We can’t afford to be polite to the monster in the White House when his dearest wish is to kill babies, including those already born.

The problem is that Obamacare represents a lot of what the bishops want. They can't attack to hard, because they know he represents the best chance for socialized medicine and illegal alien amnesty.

Ok. So... Obutthead is now mandating that PRIVATE COMPANIES MUST give goods and services away for free?!?! Either the customer pays through higher premium or the stockholders pay. SOMONE will be paying for “free” contraceptives. Should McDonald's be mandated to give free hamburgers to the poor? Should Government Motors be mandated to give Chevy Volts to the rich? Where does this crap stop? Obuttboy needs to be voted out of office.

From Catholic Vote:

Dear CV Friend,

What just happened?

The truth: the assault on religious liberty just got worse.

Moments ago President Obama introduced an accounting gimmick to appease voters over his recent Health and Human Services mandate. The so-called compromise will continue to force virtually all employers, including religious institutions, to pay into insurance policies that cover abortion drugs and other immoral medicines and procedures.

What's the catch?

To protect himself from the national backlash, the President announced a "compromise" that will allow religious institutions to withhold premiums paid to insurance companies for select medicines and procedures they believe are immoral.

But these immoral medicines and drugs will continue to be provided by the same insurance plans for free -- to everyone, including every employee of Catholic institutions!

So President Obama decided to use insurance companies to hide his assault on religious liberty.

Separating the premiums paid to insurance companies does not change what these policies will cover. The very same policies funded by religious institutions will continue to cover contraception, birth control, and abortion drugs for every employee of these organizations. To pretend, by an accounting gimmick, that the premiums paid by the employer will not subsidize these services is simply absurd.

Furthermore, self-funded insurance plans (like many of those used by Catholic institutions) will continue to be forced to provide these immoral medicines.

And owners of businesses who believe abortion drugs are immoral? Sorry. To hell with liberty. Pay up.

All Americans should shudder at what has just transpired.

Despite repeated promises during the healthcare debate in 2009, the President of the United States has created a sham conscience compromise, and ordered all insurance companies to pay for abortion drugs -- and all religious institutions will be forced to pay into these plans.

He thought he could get away with this assault on our freedom. We called him out and forced him to respond. Now we must call his bluff.

This isn't the end.

CV President Brian Burch has been on the phone all morning with members of Congress urging them to immediately introduce legislation that will protect the conscience rights of all Americans.

Catholics don't want an accounting gimmick.

We want freedom.

And we won't rest until we get it.

“Express concerns?” Sheez! All he did was transfer the responsibility for paying for abortions, sterilizations, morning after pills from just the Catholic employer to now the rest of the taxpayers AND the Catholic employer! He just reshuffled the deck and dealt out to more players, but the Joker card is still in there! As another Catholic Bishop said earlier today, “he must think Catholics are stupid.”

And as a Protestant anti-abortion business owner whom will also be forced to pay for abortions, I would like to know where is MY waiver?!

This 0bamination known as 0BowMaocare absolutely MUST be struck down by the Supremes! It was anti-Constitutional from the start and they just make it more so every day! Let it stand and everything that this Country was founded on is DEAD!

Perhaps bishop Dolan could learn something from Dr. Land.
