Pres. Obama’s “Plan B” compromise, Sr. Keehan, and the Magisterium of Nuns
WDTPRS ^ | February 10, 2012 | Fr. John Zuhlsdorf

Posted on 02/10/2012 11:38:33 AM PST by NYer

Even before Pres. Obama made the announcement that he is taking his “Plan B” pill, an exponent of the Magisterium of Nuns, Sr. Carol Keehan of the Catholic Health Association (which – against the US bishops – gave cover to Catholic democrats to vote for abortion providing Obamacare) made a statement that she is pleased with Obama’s compromise… er um… accommodation.

BEFORE the President’s announcement.

This suggests to me that someone in the White House contacted Keehan to make sure that she would back Obama on this even if the American bishops were not adequately appeased (read “duped”) by Obama’s compromise… er um… accommodation.

The American bishops had better figure out very soon that an alternate “magisterium” is being created against their own authority, and that the exponents of that false “magisterium” are in bed with those who would violate the 1st Amendment in order to get their way.

Sister Keehan: Give back that pen!

I am sorry but this woman is not a Catholic or a nun. She should be stripped of her title.

"This suggests to me that someone in the White House contacted Keehan to make sure that she would back Obama on this even if the American bishops were not adequately appeased (read “duped”) by Obama’s compromise… er um… accommodation."

Exactly. (The administration does things like this every single time.)

People need to get out ahead of this and show that her views are simply the views of one confused person with an agenda, and are not representative of the bishops.

She’s an Obama-feminist, rubber stamping his supposed “compromise” and re-election bid, which was his plan all along.

Are we back in the Garden again? There sure seem to be a lot of fig leaves being passed out today for Obamabots with this “accommodation.”

The sleazy-three -- Carol Keehan, Nancy Pelosi, and Kathleen Sebelius. (CINOs all.)

When Pelosi said she was going to "stick with her fellow Catholics" in support of B.O.'s disgraceful and anti-American efforts, she must have meant these other two "Catholics".

Seems like they all somehow missed some very important lessons in their Catechism classes...

There are "useful idiots" in every age and in every battle between liberty and tyranny. This person may be one of those, if she does not understand that an assertion of power over the Constitution's Bill of Rights in one instance threatens all its other protections.

Rush's perceptive comment today about Van Susteren's seeming lack of awareness last night when she referred to this as a "fight over contraception," should catch the attention of all who have bought into the Obama power grab. Is Greta a victim of law school training which did not focus on the Constitution's underlying ideas? Or, is she simply buying into the "progressive" over reach of power?

As in the so-called "health care reform," or "health care reform," or whatever other semantic maneuver was used, the President's language always is designed to disguise his intended agenda.

Constitutional illiteracy, brought about by the decades-long "progressive" censorship of the Constitution's underlying principles from textbooks and public discourse, has enabled him to be bold and confident in the belief that he can subvert the Constitution without "the People" knowing it.

James Madison stated: "Although all men are born free, slavery has been the general lot of the human race. Ignorant—they have been cheated; asleep—they have been surprised; divided—the yoke has been forced upon them. But what is the lesson? ... the people ought to be enlightened, to be awakened, to be united, that after establishing a government, they should watch over it ... It is universally admitted that a well-instructed people alone can be permanently free."

Say What?
Her numerous awards and honors include the American Hospital Association’s Trustee Award; the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (Cross for the Church and Pontiff), bestowed by Pope Benedict XVI; the American Cardinals’ Encouragement Award..blah, blah, blah..

Who is her Superior? She resides in DC. Why doesn’t Cardinal Wuerl address this?

Oh, he never addresses anything, but looks good on camera.

The USCCB responds:

“We hope to work with the Administration to guarantee that Americans’ consciences and our religious freedom are not harmed by these regulations.”

My Princes are dumber than rocks..Yeah, deals with the Devil are always successful because the Devil is such a moron.

It’s time to start snuffing the candles for her and the members of the USCCB that support her. This is beyond the pale.

My Princes are dumber than rocks.

No, dear friend! They are assessing the game plan to their advantage. Their position is solid and unchanging .. that is good. To support her position, Sebelius indicated that nearly 98% of catholic women have used birth control at some point in time, for medical reasons. In fact, 30+ years ago, my doctor put me on birth control to treat endometriosis. The objective was to eliminate the endometriosis so that I could become pregnant. It didn't work. However, that places me, a non contracepting catholic woman, in Sebelius' statistic. Do you see how cleverly the snake slithers through the grass? Let's be frank and honest. The actual number of young catholic women who take birth control to limit the size of their families, is well below that number. Sebelius is using that statistic to manipulate the POTUS in her direction, by referring to it as medicine.

The bishops are walking through a mine field that include catholic women on both sides of the issue. While they can never condone the use of contraceptives and related drugs, they must navigate the field in a way that does not alienate contracepting women from the Church. Remember, they have until January to formulate a decision on this matter. The ball has been tossed back to their court, by Obama. Rather than make an impulsive decision, they have wisely decided to place this item on their Spring agenda. In the meantime, we have Bill Donohue and a host of other catholics out there to scream 'foul'. As Donohue noted on Fox this afternoon, his insurance provider is Christian Brothers. As a catholic organization, how can they pay for contraceptives that go against their conscience? Besides, with any organization that provides insurance coverage to their employees, the employer is funding all or a portion of that insurance. And now, to compound matters, the insurance companies are also assessing the situation. Who will pay them for this? The issue is far more complex than what we see and deserves time for a proper response.

Next week, Timothy Dolan, President of the USCCB will leave for Rome and his elevation to cardinal. Let's remember him and ALL the bishops in our prayers. God knows they need them.

I am glad you have more confidence in them than I. I agree the teachings of the Church are solid and unchanging, but I am afraid that is not always the case with the USCCB.

IMHO, I would rather have a Fr. Z in my foxhole than a Cardinal Wuerl.

Excellent analysis of the new “accommodation”.

In my opinion the Bishops were outmaneuvered by Obama and his merry band of Leftists, on ObamaCare.

Let’s hope and pray that memory is at the forefront of their thinking, while they seek to negotiate with Obama and Sebelius.
