LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABP) – A Southern Baptist seminary president applauded Roman Catholic bishops for refusing to obey an insurance mandate forcing employers to offer coverage for contraceptives and sterilization, and predicted that evangelical leaders will soon face similar choices.
“Our religious liberty is being similarly subverted and attacked,” Albert Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said of the Obama administration’s inclusion of pregnancy in “preventive services” that health insurers must provide.
In his daily podcast briefing Jan. 31, Mohler commented on a letter from bishops read in Catholic churches Jan. 27 stating in part, “We cannot -- we will not -- comply with this unjust law.”
“You at least have to admire the courage of the Roman Catholic bishops in saying they are willing to go to jail rather than to comply with this,” Mohler said. “How many evangelical presidents and pastors and leaders will be willing to do the same? We’re going to find out in the coming months.”
Mohler said the insurance mandate “is not only a Catholic issue,” even though the mainstream media wants to present it that way. Not all Christians agree with the Catholic Church’s teaching against all forms of artificial birth control, he said, but they must be united in opposition to abortion.

Unfortunately, there are some Protestants whose prejudice against Catholics will get in the way of their defending what is right: religious liberty. What they fail to understand, however, is that they may be next.

It is not prejudice, it is genuine disagreement over points of doctrine.....rather important points, I would say.

Apparently you don’t much about Mohler’s thoughts on Catholicism.
The number will be so miniscule there will be no measurable effect, and it isn't worth mentioning unless one is attempting to dredge up politically inconsequential differences from the bottom of the spiritual barrel.
No protestant conservative is in favor of the U.S. government dictating to the Roman Catholic Church. Not one!

Thank-you. This was going to be my point also. This is not about the theological differences between religions. This is about the government telling a religion their beliefs do not matter and may be cast aside by the govenment. All people should fight this because the federal government is way overstepping their authority.
The concern over "religious liberty" from RC's is a little much. You might want to look at some history books.
Probably the best place to start fixing the problem of an all encompassing authoritarian govt is with those members of your church that vote. It was 55% of RC's that voted for obama.
In the end, this out-of-control fed government is going to force Christians refocus their fight on standing up to the feds.
That is why educating the Catholic faithful is very important more than ever.

you’re confusing two issues: the actual law of the land, and your dislike of Catholicism.
The law of the land forbids the sort of action the current government is engaging in. That applies whether you’re Catholic, Sikh, Jew, Orthodox, Buddhist, whatever. If you wish to look at it as a narrowly-focused Catholics-only item, you may only do so until the government finds your denomination inconvenient, at which time, you’ll be the next up. Lest you imagine that I am only saying this because I’m Catholic, the answer is no. If this were an attack on you, or JR, or anyone in the country, of this sort, I would have to object. The first amendment covers all of us. Breaking it for one breaks it for all.
RC's did this to themselves. They elected this guy. They backed his take over of healthcare. 55% of RC's that voted did so for obama. Also, the RCC has no history of defending the religious liberty of Evangelical Christians and their churches. So it's a bit much when the cry goes out to defend the RCC because it might happen to you.
So the point is fairly obvious, clean up the mess you created.
As is typically the case any criticism is labelled "dislike". In this instance it is the hypocrisy of RC's that I don't appreciate.

I'm well aware of this and I am also well aware that when the govt attacks my church the RCC will not come to our aid if it doesn't benefit the RCC.
