As one who tries to pray Prime and Compline on a daily basis, I wondered who else among us does. I'd love to pray more of the Divine Office, myself.

I will begin on my 60th birthday coming up in the next week. My siblings gave me the 4 volume set for my 59th, but these words from our Holy Father make it clear how crucial it is that we make the attempt. Good for you Uncle Dave on your faithfulness with Prime & Compline.

With the skies darkening, chaos coming to the cities of the world, including ours, we so much need to prepare, watch, wait. Prayer is the oil in our lamps as we await the coming of the Bridegroom, and what greater prayer this side of Holy Mass than the prayer of the Church.

I do. Not perfectly, but it’s a great habit.

We just started a regular Wednesday “community office” at a small chapel nearby. On Wds. nights, people come and say what is referred to in the new texts as “Evening Prayer” together; they are actually chanting it on two notes in alternating “choirs,” and everybody likes it. The group gets larger every week. It’s not formally organized; people just come as they hear about it and don’t have to make a committment to show up every Weds.

We do it entirely in English with perhaps a hymn (Salve Regina or such) in Latin. It’s a start!

I use this website: http://www.breviary.net/

Published by the Confraternity of Ss. Peter and Paul. It is the old Breviary reformed by Saint Pope Pius X. Membership (IIRC) is $24.00 per year.
