Bandra Feast is celebrated in most Catholic households on September 8, the birthday of Mary, the mother of Christ. The feast, which has been celebrated in the suburb of Mumbai for several hundred years, is distinct from the Bandra fair.
Bandra resident Vivian Pereira said, for the feast families attend mass either at Mount Mary's Basilica or other churches in the morning. "They then have family prayers at home and have a festive lunch or dinner with relatives from other suburbs invited for the feast. The modern lifestyle has taken its toll on this ritual, but we still have many families marking this occasion in Bandra," he said.
"While the actual day of Mother Mary's birthday fell on September 8, the Church would celebrate it on the next Sunday with a Mass in the morning. It is seen as a people's feast and attracts families particularly women," he said. In Bandra, the feast of Mary is strongly associated with the statue of Virgin Mary at Mount Mary's Basilica for several hundred years. Fr Francis Correia, who has authored a book on Mount Mary, said that the faith in Virgin Mary manifests itself when people of all faiths come to the Church to seek her blessings. When was the feast of Virgin Mary first celebrated? It goes back long ago said Fr Correia, he cites a report by a Jesuit priest written in 1669 which states. "
On the Church of St Anne depended the hermitage of Our Lady of the Mount(Mount Mary).
The feast is celebrated each year on September 8, the feast of the Nativity of Our Lady. The parish priest of St Anne's goes there every week to say mass for the people who flock there in great numbers out of devotion to their mother.''
According to historical records, the statue of 'Our Lady of Navigators' was in the chapel at the mount from 1700 to 1760. An attack on Bandra by Arab pirates who are said to have chopped one of its arms took its toll on the statue.
It was later re-installed in 1761. "Over the years the Virgin of the Mount came to be known in different names in colloquial Marathi, 'Matha Mavli', 'Mothi Mavli' and now 'Mot Mavli'," said Fr Correa. The devotion keeps growing.
The history of Christianity here dates to the Portuguese arrival in the 1500s
If one takes 1 Cor 15:50 incorrectly to say no blood, then one has to conclude that Jesus has no flesh either in heaven also Luke 24:39 shows clearly that Jesus had flesh and bones, hence 1 Corinthians 15:50 does NOT mean what you think in context of Jesus -- Paul means that we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven as just humans but have to be transformed by Christ.

It is added to the thread title, at the end: “Bandra (Bombay, India) all set to mark Mother Mary’s b’day {Catholic/Orthodox Caucus}”
Thank you. It sneaked up on me. I knew about the separate religion forum, but didn’t know there were forbidden topics in the general forum. Sorry.
