{Canada ELCC}Lutheran convention votes to allow gay ministers, blessing of same-sex marriages

Delegates attending the biennial convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada have voted to allow gays and lesbians to become ministers.

The delegates voted 205 to 114 in favour of a motion that states sexual orientation is not in itself a factor that disqualifies a candidate for the church's ministry.

The motion rescinds ones from past conventions which disqualified candidates from ordination if they were self-declared, practising homosexuals.

The delegates also voted 192 to 132 to allow ministers to conduct or bless same-sex marriages, according to their consciences and the laws of their provinces.

Delegates sang "Lord Listen to Your Children Pray" while ballots for the same-sex marriage motion were being cast. Close to 500 Lutherans and guests have been meeting in Saskatoon since Thursday for the convention.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada is Canada's largest Lutheran denomination with 152,500 baptized members in 607 congregations. It is a member of the Lutheran World Federation, the Canadian Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America voted to permit non-celibate gays and lesbians to become clergy in the summer of 2009.

It seems like the pinkos are moving quicker these days. As I've said before, this is an attack on all Christians not just Lutherans or Methodists etc.

The pinkos aim is to get attack each church. What they hope to gain from this, I have no idea...

So the Canadians are two full years behind their American cousins in turning a once proud denomination into advocates for Sodomites?

When will they ever learn? Their worthwhile membership will leave for other denominations or quit going to church at all. The rest will turn it into a social club with only a superficial resemblance to Christianity, at best.

agreed. but as for why, i think Marx, Gramsci, and Alinsky say plenty.
the family unit, and the church, are 2 big obstacles for making people look to the government first.

most things on the progressive agenda, attack them.
(and i think that 1963 list of communist goals also includes some.)

they take over the leadership, even when the vast majority disagrees. as per Alinsky.
(another example is AGW. 53,000 scientists say it’s a hoax. but all their professional organizations support it.)

...but a system where you can “vote” on whether to accept, or reject, specific commands in the Bible?
the mechanism itself is flawed.

From the article:
“The delegates voted 205 to 114 in favour of a motion that states sexual orientation is not in itself a factor that disqualifies a candidate for the church’s ministry.”

The accuracy of this sentence can be improved with the change of a single letter: “motion” to “notion.” There, fixed it.

Who needs doctrines when you have notions?

Libtards have an inconvenient barrier called the first amendment. If you can’t attack and destroy the churches directly, the next best thing to do is to turn them into empty, hollowed-out shells.

Good points, but we should not be complacent. After their “successes” there, the pinkos are not going to rest. They’ve already said their aim is the UMC next
