The nations Roman Catholic bishops on Thursday resisted calls for major changes in their child sex abuse policy despite recent cases involving priests in Kansas City and Philadelphia.
Critics say those cases raise questions about whether some bishops are even following the policy, which was crafted nine years ago to address the sex abuse crisis that was rocking the church.
The critics reacted swiftly after Thursdays 187-5 vote, which approved a few revisions, including listing child pornography as a violation of church law.
We are dismayed that the new policy is almost identical to the current policy, despite horrifying recent evidence in Kansas City and Philadelphia that the churchs current policies are dangerously lenient and full of loopholes, said Terence McKiernan, president of BishopAccountability.org, a group that operates an online database of accused priests.
The policy needs to be overhauled. This is a squandered opportunity and a disaster for children, not only in the United States but worldwide, he said.

Are the crayons included?
None of it means a thing as long as Crimen Sollicitationis is still in effect which prohibits the victims from going to the police.
Read wikipedia on Crimen Solliciationis, find out what it actually is, and then come back and tell us it is “still in effect.” Or if it ever prohibited anyone from going to the police.
Because that is false. The subject has been addressed numerous times, but some here seem unable to remember from time to time. Perhaps a person who looked it up for him/herself will remember better.
You mean something like United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People which includes:
ARTICLE 4. Dioceses/eparchies are to report an allegation of sexual abuse of a person who is a minor to the public authorities. Dioceses/eparchies are to comply with all applicable civil laws with respect to the reporting of allegations of sexual abuse of minors to civil authorities and cooperate in their investigation in accord with the law of the jurisdiction in question.
Dioceses/eparchies are to cooperate with public authorities about reporting cases even when the person is no longer a minor.
In every instance, dioceses/eparchies are to advise victims of their right to make a report to public authorities and support this right.
Thanks for your post and clear refutation of the accusation.
“Yada, yada, yada I’m sticking my fingers in my ears so I can’t here you” notwithstanding.
Give it up. Your posts indicate a desperate attempt to avoid facts and repeat the same debunked claims. You’re busted on this thread - over and over on the same points.
Time to find something else to post, make the same claims, get busted again find something else to post, make the same claims, get busted again
It’s becoming fun to watch and sad at the same time.
lol. Another white flag from the papists?
And a dollop of RF rule-breaking by "mind-reading," to boot!
Funny as all heck, but repetitious and therefore ultimately a bore. Your own church documents refute your paltry deflections on every one of these threads. Crimen Sollicitationis says what it says in black and white, and yet some RC apologists still have the hubris to deny the written word.
Same old/same old. Habitual blindness lest they be healed.
And yet I find this still to be a worthwhile exercise to watch it play out in public.
Time to find something else to post, make the same claims
Oh, dear, so many news stories to choose from warning of the pederasty within the RCC. How about this one...?
lol. Read Wikipedia? The place where anyone can say anything?
Why not use your own God-given ability to read the printed word and peruse Crimen Sollicitationis yourself, paying particular attention to #11 and #13
And yes. CS is "still in effect," and it most certainly does prevent victims and their families from going to anyone other than a member of the church with the accusations, under penalty of excommunication.
This document is filled with astounding nuggets of ways to get around the truth. Check out #52...
"...In every way the judge is to remember that it is never right for him to bind the accused by an oath to tell the truth."
Say what??!!?? During these church proceedings the accused pedophile priest is NEVER to be bound to tell the truth? Does the same go for the victim?
What a racket. These people belong in jail. Why Roman Catholics aren't storming their churches to rid them of these men of Satan is a great puzzle for anyone with children or any sense of decency.
You've been taken to school on this thread, reduced to "yada yada yada."
RF rule-breaking by "mind-reading,"
Oh, look. Another false claim. "Your posts indicate
" is not mind-reading.
Great start. Now get rid of Crimen Sollicitationis which is still in effect and supersedes in authority and intent any “pamphlet” from U.S. bishops offering “suggestions.”
When someone is determined to believe something they have made up, there is no point in discussing anything.
Anyone else, feel free to get some REAL information about what it is, what it means, what the ramifications are, and whether the statements here are accurate. Or not.
Instead, these documents continue to portray the pedophilia at the heart of the RCC as being simply isolated cases in isolated places, rather than a widespread, ongoing criminal enterprise.
All talk. And nothing changes. And Crimen Sollicitationis still inhibits the victims from going to the police under penalty of excommunication.
Destroyed if you do/destroyed if you don't. That's the choice Rome gives the children who are raped by its priests.
The true question of the hour....just as you've stated.
This has both confounded and amazed me that they have not. I can only assume that "fear" rules the hearts of the people in confronting not only their local churches but as well the Vatican itself. Though I do believe there are some who have passionately done so, they are not enough in number to bring about the needed results.
No different than our attempts to defeat Obama....it takes a majority. The catholic church is so large, and it's tenticles reach worldwide, that to clamp down on the leadership to do something far reaching seems close to impossible, especially since they have hidden and protected these individuals for so very long...and seemingly are trying to do this in a manner that still will protect those who are in high office....the Pope for one...who might have enabled and participated in keeping these individuals protected.
If Rome itself is party to this than surely fear would prevail among the members that if that wasindeed proven so then what would come of the Vatican and the leadership they have depended upon for what they believe. It would be shaken beyond measure and that is a pill to hard for many to swallow. So they will continue to sacrifice their children for the sake of those they choose to protect.
This is all well and good but ‘acting on this’ remains a huge factor as it requires the will of one to act accordingly. Many will continue to protect both the leadership and those involved.
Rather like the laws of our land and we see these consistantly fought against, resisted, and twisted to the point that the letter of law is lost....and the guilty go free.
I understand catholics position on this. But the facts still remain that there is a serious problem within the leadership of the catholic church not acting strongly enough against these criminals, and the membership too afraid to step up and demand it. Though some inroads have been made it is still not enough to bring justice and rid the church of this stench. Perhaps it will simply require more time, but currently it has not satisfied those who want to see this completely out of the church once and for all.
I guess that is one way to react when your source is exposed as less than reputable.
We dedicate the work of this program to the protection of St. Joseph, the guardian of the redeemer of mankind. Please join us in offering this prayer to the husband of Mary and the step-father of Our Lord: St. Joseph, God entrusted His greatest treasures, Mary and Jesus, to your protection. We now place our programs under your patronage. We ask you to pray for us, that we may create a safe environment for the children who have been entrusted to us. Please obtain for us the grace to lead these children to lives of virtue and love, and to guide them to the vocations that God has intended for them. Help us to be good role models and protectors for them, as you were for your family. We ask this in the name of your beloved spouse Mary, and your son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Maybe they're using the "official" interpretation afforded them by the "Magicsterium" -- you know, they don't want to be accused of "Your Own Personal Interpretation of Crimen Sollicitationis"
Oooh -- we could use a cool acronym like they do! -> "YOPIOCS"
:D

The Marian Cult perverted the truth.
The masculine portrait of our Savior Jesus Christ is not at the forefront. Jesus Christ is either a baby on His mother's lap, or a beaten victim near death on the Cross. The reality is He was a carpenter by trade before He started His ministry. A tough way to make a living. He walked into the Temple and beat the money changers. He knocked to the ground the guards that came for Him, when He was betrayed, with words from His mouth. IOW, He is not the wimpy feminized mommy's boy as they portray Him.

Very refreshing to hear, William. Rousing. May all our sons grow up to be men of Christ - strong, adult and not afraid to smack down the wolves among the sheep.
