"Or are all these vapid defenses coming from people with no children?"

If I caught ANYONE, priest pastor protestant or peasant, doing such things to a child I would knock him through the wall. Catholics do not 'harbor' pedophiles. You are simply making vast generalizations.

LOL! How do you plan on catching them when they do it in private? Lots of toughness fails flat.

However it's not a secret it's been going on; yet, all the catholic toughness is being directed at DrE. It's more like if anyone is caught posting about pedophile priests and the RCC cover up of the abuse of a child ........

I don’t believe ALL harbor such.

Clearly SOME in the hierarchy have and do.

How ANY FR RC’s can deny and rationalize that is

well beyond me.

From the "Boston Globe"...

CARDINAL PROMOTED ALLEGED SEX ABUSER

Cardinal Bernard F. Law promoted a Quincy pastor to the position of area vicar with oversight of 19 parishes south of Boston in 1996, after the pastor had admitted to an allegation of sexual misconduct, according to the sworn testimony of a church official. In a deposition made public yesterday, the Rev. Charles J. Higgins acknowledged that the pastor, the Very Rev. Daniel M. Graham, had admitted to an allegation of sexual misconduct before he was given responsibility for parishes in Braintree, Milton, Quincy, and Randolph. Law also had promoted Graham to pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Quincy in 1990 despite the fact that the archdiocese had been informed of an allegation of sexual abuse against him, according to the alleged victim and his attorney who spoke with the Globe yesterday...

VATICAN ALLOWED PEDOPHILE TO REMAIN IN PRIESTHOOD

(Dec. 16, 2010) The Vatican prevented Dublin church leaders from dismissing a particularly dangerous pedophile priest and relented only after he raped a boy in a pub restroom, an investigation reported yesterday...

Yes, in fact, they DO. It has been proven over and over that rather than face the music, the organization of the Roman church will shuffle them off somewhere else, and sweep the matter under the rug.

YOU do not approve, nor anyone here, as we have heard time and again. But we are not talking about YOU. this is not a subject where specificity matters or is even relevant, as the charge is against the whole edifice, and purposefully must be so. One cannot say that we must avoid looking at the general case, just to make that general case disappear.

You are simply making vast generalizations.

Of course it is a generalization - No one is calling YOU a pedophile. It is the entirety of the Roman church that stands indicted... And rightly so:

The tendencies of Roman priests toward alter boys is so well known and prolific that it has become a standard for jokes in western countries (much like drunken friars) - It is a part of the identity of the Roman church. And that is *not* specific to this go-around. Those jokes have been around far longer than I have been alive, or my father, or my grandfather; and one can find such references all the way back to bardic lore and late medieval drinking songs.

This is no *new* thing, as much as papist apologists would like it to be so. So is it a generality? Certainly it is. But that is because it must be to encompass the scope.
