I had to look up this meaning also.

INFIDEL

One who does not believe. Formerly applied to all non-Christians, the term is now used only of unbelievers, i.e., professed atheists or agnostics. (Etym. Latin in-, not + fidelis, true, faithful: infidelis, one that cannot be relied upon, faithless.)
