ARE CATHOLICS LIKE ISLAMISTS? (Bill Donohue on NYT article)
Catholic League ^ | February 5, 2011 | Bill Donohue

Posted on 02/06/2011 11:11:25 AM PST by NYer

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on an article in today's New York Times about the events in Egypt:

The Catholic community and the Islamists have much in common, so says the New York Times: "As the Roman Catholic Church includes both those who practice leftist liberation theology and conservative anti-abortion advocates, so the [Muslim] Brotherhood includes both practical reformers and firebrand ideologues." Sure. So Sister Mary Alice who leans left while working with the poor, and Father Murphy who works with pro-lifers, have much in common with Muslims who differ with each other on whether to kill Jews now or wait until they're elected.

The headline reads, "Islamist Group is Poised to Be a Power in Egypt, but Its Intentions Are Unclear." They didn't say an Islamic group—they correctly used the term that describes Muslims who blend Islam with extremist politics. Yet the Times still can't figure out their intentions.

When the Brotherhood was founded in 1928, its motto was "Jihad is our way." Nothing has changed since. Their current leaders believe it is important to "Kill Jews—to the very last one." On Monday, another leader said Egyptians "should prepare for war against Israel." Even the Times admits today that "its leaders have endorsed acts of terrorism against Israel and against American troops in Iraq."

Last night, another leader said that any government which takes over should withdraw from the 32-year-old peace treaty with Israel. And just today an Al Queda-run website, Muslim.Net, said, "We call upon the Islamists to support the Muslim Brotherhood," a clear indication that whatever differences the two groups have previously had, it's more important that all terrorists unite.

Yeah, just like Sister Mary Alice and Father Murphy.

It just goes to show not only do idiot liberals not understand the military nor have the guts to serve their country, they know nothing about religion either. They need to stick to what they know: defend pedophiles and illegals, plus promote sex with whoever and whatever and drugs.

Catholicism is nothing like Islam. Muslims would like the world to think so as to justify or legitimize their behavior. Islam has a purposeful destabilizing effect on the world. They can't live in harmony with other religions because they are compelled by Islam to spread Sharia.

If we don't quietly accept Sharia Law, Islam requires Muslims to declare jihad against us to force Sharia on our country.

The ******s at the Times feel nothing but irrational hatred for the Catholic Church. And every day, and in every way, I feel more and more contempt for them.

They have always been extreme leftists, but they have increasingly abandoned all pretence of professionalism.

The NYT has more in common with islamism than Roman Catholicism ever did.

Islam appears to have gotten more of its traits from judaism then christianity. The difference being that the jews were commanded by god to conquer the promised land, Allah commands the muslims to conquer the world.

In my opinion this makes Islam completely incompatible with the principles our country stands for. However, one of the things we stand for is freedom of religion, but Islam requires the muslims to convert, kill, or tax all non-muslims. If we did not have PC we would acknowledge this and act accordingly i.e. extra survelliance on mosques, every arabic individual searched at airports etc.

I am afraid that the general populace is so blind to the truth of Islam that one day we could wake up to a new constitutional amendment stating the we are a Islamic country and sharia is the law of the land.

You may be on to something. Several years ago, a German scholar decided to research the root language of the Koran which, over the centuries, had been translated into Arabic. His research was compiled into a book with the author writing under a pseudonym. He maintains that it was created by Syro-Aramaic speaking Christians, in order to evangelize the Arabs.

You can read an interview with the author here.

I can find nothing in the Catholic Bible that says that unbelievers are to covert, die or become slave. The Koran on the other hand............

Wrong. Unlike the two sides of the Catholic debate, NEITHER of the Islamist groups employ REASON in any decisions they make. Folks like the Muslim Brotherhood may pretend to negotiate, but that’s only to mollify the Left in the West. They have no intention of doing anything except what they believe will bring all the non-Islamic world under the submission of Allah.

I disagree with you on that point. They do use reason based on the koran. The koran says to bring the entire world under the islamic religion and law. Everything they do is to achieve that aim.

I think one of the problems in Americans understanding muslims, besides all the propaganda from the left, is that most Americans don't take religion seriously. This makes it hard for them to see that muslims do. They think the causes of islamic terror is because of Isreal or other political slights. It really comes down to what the koran is telling them to do.
