I am sure he would not like that.
But to call him “the Beloved” would be appropriate, I think.

I remember a movie or mini series which stared a few years back, Jon Voight as this legendary pope, and his life. The favorite scene was when he was living in Poland, one Christmas Eve, when a town that was built,minus a Catholic Church, the folks and him had to worship in a park midnight mass.
