What is LCMS?
There are MANY Bible verses that one is allowed to pick from for a funeral Mass. Obviously your relative was a farmer and the Priest was being nice and accomadating to you to pick out your OWN!! You took it that he didn't know the Bible.....you are wrong....he was being thoughful to you!

LCMS is the largest orthodox Lutheran group in the US. They are orthodox, believe in the True Presence in the Eucharist and in the Nicene Creed. Red and Belt are both LCMS. This group, by sticking true to orthodoxy, are our fellow Christians and brothers in Christ

He didn’t know. And told my mother in law as much. My wife yelled for me to come over.
The priest is a good guy, but a bit odd. I wasn’t really surprised he didn’t have any verses handy, and he is hardley a good example.

redgolum is one of the good guys. His point, which is true, is that far too many Catholics AND Protestants are not nearly as familiar with the Bible as they should be.
