I don’t understand the uproar and mockery over the use of grape juice. If some believers take the admonition to avoid drunkenness to heart to the point of avoiding alcohol altogether, that’s their prerogative and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Wine was used because it kept. There was no refrigeration. There is now. No reason not to take advantage of it if prayer and contemplation leads to that. No reason to condemn others who use wine because it was used Biblically either, on the other hand. So long as it’s not used to excess there is no harm and it could actually be healthy and beneficial.
Maybe my perspective is unique, being the child of a Moravian and a Primitive Baptist, raised Lutheran. I have family on all sides of that debate. They do as they see fit and I’m fine with that, their salvation is not endangered either way. It’s a minor doctrinal dispute.
