Soros Funding of Sojourners is Only The Tip of the Iceberg
Acton Institute ^ | 8/26/2010 | Jonathan Witt

Posted on 08/26/2010 9:29:29 AM PDT by markomalley

I blogged about the Jim Wallis funding controversy here and here. Now Jay Richards, a former Acton fellow, has more at NRO, beginning with a look at Wallis’s “clarification” of his earlier denials:

Note that Wallis does not apologize for falsely accusing Marvin Olasky of “lying for a living.” Instead, he blames his own misrepresentation of the truth on the “spirit of the accusation.”

The “clarification” of his earlier statement is equally unsatisfying. First, Wallis is still trying to claim that his organization transcends the Manichean political divide of left and right. They just do “biblical social justice,” he insists. But again, as I show in much more detail elsewhere, Wallis and Sojourners regularly couple strained, narrow readings of scriptural texts and a vaguely Marxist economic foundation to arrive at political and economic positions that are well left of center and far afield of a far more nuanced charity and justice tradition stretching back through almost 2,000 years of orthodox Christian thought.

Second, it’s implausible for Wallis to claim that grants between 2004 and 2007 totaling $325,000 are “the tiniest fraction” of Sojourners’ funding. Worse, the three grants from Soros’s Open Society Institute are only the tip of the iceberg. Based on publicly-available 990s, I’ve discovered that Sojourners received at least forty-nine separate foundation grants between 2003 and 2009, totaling $2,159,346. Not one of these is from a discernibly conservative foundation. Very few are from discernibly Christian foundations.

To be clear, the problem isn’t that Sojourners is less than apolitical. It’s that Wallis persists in claiming that Sojourners doesn’t rest anywhere on the political spectrum, and isn’t heavily funded by members of the secular left. Sojourners is a left-wing organization, and it should be judged in no small measure by the success or failure of its left-wing ideas in the course of world and American history.

UPDATE: The Weekly Standard also has a new article on the controversy, which includes a summary of Wallis’s ideological journey beginning in the 1960s:

Unlike Cizik, Wallis was grudging in his admission of a Soros connection. Cizik over the years has shifted from right to left, so his affiliation with Ted Turner, and then Soros, seem natural. Wallis began as a campus radical with the Students for a Democratic Society, touted the Sandinistas during the 1980s, and denounced Clinton for signing Welfare Reform in 1996. But over the last decade Wallis has reinvented a new, cuddlier image as the graying, post-ideological prophet who shuns temporal political labels. When evangelicals became an especially key constituency during the George W. Bush years, Wallis rediscovered and advertised his evangelical roots, though he generally avoids theological self-revelation and describes his evangelical beliefs in political terms. Appealing to evangelical colleges and suburban mega-church yuppies, Wallis probably prefers not to become known as George Soros’s favorite evangelical activist.

People need to read up on Soros Open Society initatives, what they’re doing now and what they used to do. Support of death & dying in America was a project. Euthanasia. Support of prostitution in S. America (Brazil comes to mind), legal drug use.

You start digging in the research and old documents too much though, and you get to feeling dirty. Don’t stay too long.

I saw a blip on the international news yesterday that Parliament has approved British sicentists moving forward, in the name of "finding cures for Parkinson's, etc.," with a program of genetically engineering cross-bred "human-animal" clones.

While I don't dare deign to speak for Him, I can't imagine God sitting still for too much more of this Satanic crap. The end is very likely closer than we think, and I think it's real close...

Did you see this?

Soros' Quantum hedge fund last week purchased Dubai Financial Group's 4% stake in the Bombay Stock Exchange....... Soros' investment comes as India works to modernize its capital markets, opening new exchanges, streamlining trading and introducing new products, like currency futures.

India's stock markets are of increasing interest to foreign investors. Brokers own 44 percent of the BSE, with public shareholders controlling the rest. Thirty percent of public shareholding is in the hands of foreign entities, including Deutsche Boerse, the Singapore Stock Exchange, Canadian financier Tom Caldwell, and US private equity group Argonaut Ventures.

Indian law prohibits foreign investors from holding more than 5% in a local exchange. The BSE had 4,990 listed companies as of July and a market capitalization of $1.4 trillion, according to its website.

Soros is probably funding Raj Goyle, AKA Rajeev Goyle, in the Kansas 4th.

Soros’ son has given directly to Goyle’s campaign.

Soros, himself, funds the Center for American Progress, where Goyle used to work.

Goyle’s wife, Monica Arora, works for White and Case, an New York law firm which specializes in hedge funds, tax shelters, international investing and OUTSOURCING -—

Interesting and hypocritical, since Goyle runs commercials which promise to “stop” the tax breaks for “outsourcing jobs’.

I think Soros is a major client of White and Case, but all I need more proof.

Rajeev Goyle
Democrat Candidate for Congress

Mr. Goyle;

I have serious questions about your rather hypocritical campaign advertising, most notably the commercial at this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kv7oCrClE84

How can you keep a straight face, when you attack the “outsourcing of American Jobs” and “tax breaks” for outsourcing jobs, when so many people, who are very close to you, make their living doing EXACTLY that?

Let us begin with Rajiv Shah, the director of USAID or the United States Agency for International Development. Mr. Shah did more than just give “tax breaks” for outsourcing jobs -— Mr. Shah actually gave TAX DOLLARS, DIRECTLY, to a firm in Sri Lanka who’s PURPOSE is to OUTSOURCE AMERICAN “I.T.” JOBS!:

http://www.informationweek.com/news/software/integration/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=226500202

Rajiv Shah was appointed to his current position by President Barrack Hussein Obama. You you endorsed Obama, in many Hindu and Asian-American newsletters, long before Obama had defeated Hillary Clinton, in the Democrat Primary. You even campaigned, personally, for President Obama, in Texas and other states, during the Primary and General elections.

Mr. Goyle, if you truly object to tax breaks given to domestic companies, for “outsourcing jobs’ -— should you not be even more vocal, in your opposition, to American tax dollars being sent DIRECTLY to foreign countries, for the purpose of outsourcing jobs?

Then we come to the White and Case law firm. Mr. Brian Miller, at White and Case, is the former senior legal adviser for USAID:

http://www.whitecase.com/bmiller/

Of course, Monica K. Arora also works at the White and Case law firm:

http://www.whitecase.com/marora/

Monica Arora’s expertise is in the area of INTERNATIONAL investments, and in “carried interest”. “Carried interest” is a kind of tax shelter, which converts ordinary income into capital gains:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carried_interest

It certainly appears that Monica Arora is involved, directly, in raising money from wealthy Americans. She then uses that investment capital to fund FOREIGN industries. Monica Arora designs methods to convert the interest, or ordinary income, from these investments, into tax advantaged capital gains.

Of course, Monica K. Arora is married to Rajeev Goyle:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/25/style/weddings-celebrations-monica-arora-rajeev-goyle.html

I have presented several issues for you to deal with, of course. If I have made a mistake, in the identities or facts involved, please let me know. I will correct the record, as far as my statements are concerned, immediately, if you can prove that I am in error in any way.

Beyond the fact that Monica K. Arora appears to live in Maryland, and she appears to work in New York, for a Wall Street, hedge fund, law office, (which raises questions about YOUR actual residence) -—

I have honest, sincere questions about your hypocrisy, and your obvious conflicts of interest. What will you do when the subject of taxation on international hedge fund investments comes up in Congress? (Should you win the election.)

Let us not forget that Democrat Congresswoman Maxine Waters is currently under investigation, by the House Ethics Committee, for seeking favors for a Bank, on behalf of her husband:

“CNN) — California Rep. Maxine Waters is pressing the House ethics panel to set her trial date before the midterm elections in November. -—The 10-term congresswoman is accused of violating House rules by seeking federal assistance for a bank with financial ties to her husband.”

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/08/06/maxine.waters/index.html

There are several purposes, to this emailed letter.

First, I would like you to correct this letter, if any portion of it is not true. I want specific, line-by-line corrections, with facts and evidence to support your requested changes, to the honest effort that I have made in presenting the facts, as I see them.

Second, I would respectfully ask you to stop running your misleading advertising, concerning the “outsourcing of jobs” and “tax breaks.”

Third, I would further request that you promise the voters, immediately, that you will not use any current or future elective office to directly assist your friends, or your wife, Monica Arora, in their international investment activities.

Fourth, I would ask that you publicly object to the deal just announced by Rajiv Shah, and the USAID, under the direction of the Obama Administration. That deal will outsource American jobs.

Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely;

Paul F. Rosell
Wichita, KS

There is much more to come. I have to “connect the dots” for the locals to understand my point.

White and Case SPECIALIZES in Outsourcing:

http://www.whitecase.com/outsourcing/

And, since Soros already employed Goyle, at C.A.P., and since Soros’s son contributed, directly, to the Goyle campaign -—

And since Goyle’s wife works in a highly specialized field, doing EXACTLY the type of work that Soros, a member of the Bombay stock exchange, might need -—

I am guessing that Soros is a client of White and Case, and guessing that Monica's “job” is a sham, to help fund the Goyle campaign.

That, of course, would be ILLEGAL!:

“The Prohibition
The Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) prohibits any foreign national from contributing, donating or spending funds in connection with any federal, state, or local election in the United States, either directly or indirectly. It is also unlawful to help foreign nationals violate that ban or to solicit, receive or accept contributions or donations from them. Persons who knowingly and willfully engage in these activities may be subject to fines and/or imprisonment.”

Assisting Foreign National Contributions or Donations
Under Commission regulations it is unlawful to knowingly provide substantial assistance to foreign nationals making contributions or donations in connection with any U.S. election. 11 CFR 110.20(h). “Substantial assistance” refers to active involvement in the solicitation, making, receipt or acceptance of a foreign national contribution or donation with the intent of facilitating the successful completion of the transaction. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to individuals who act as conduits or intermediaries. 67 FR 69945-6 (November 19, 2002) [PDF].”

http://www.fec.gov/pages/brochures/foreign.shtml#Prohibition

(Of course, if I take this anywhere, I am going to call it the “Foreign Agents Registration and Propaganda Act” it sounds better, don't you think?)
