Catholic Word of the Day: DEADLY SINS, 06-30-10
CatholicReference.net ^ | 06-30-10 | Fr. John Hardon's Modern Catholic Dictionary

Featured Term (selected at random):

DEADLY SINS

Another name for the seven capital sins. They may be called deadly because they are tendencies to those basic sins which, if deliberately and fully consented to, deprive a person of the supernatural life of God in the soul.

Can you name them?

About a year or so ago, I saw a bar (maybe a restuarant) that had the faces of these 7 sins over the door on the front of their establishment. Kind of creeped me out...

I bet it would be creepy to see them. But one of the seven deadly sins is gluttony — eating and drinking too much. LOL!

I don’t think you are trying to bait me, so I will answer you.

I believe that would fall under greed — earthly pleasures, rather than seeking the kingdom of God.

Predominantly lust, I think.

I remember the names of the 7 Deadlies via the acronym PALE GAS:

Pride
Anger
Lust
Envy
Gluttony
Avarice
Sloth

along with the greed — lust — of course, for the wrong things.

But is lusting after a married woman the right thing?

According to this list, lust of any kind is not OK.....
