I agree with all you have written. We both know the challenge of practicing our Catholic faith in a diocese run by an uber liberal bishop. Hence, we can better appreciate the depravity so manifest in other countries like Austria and Belgium. I found the following, interesting. Pay no heed to the title; it's the content that matters, especially this:

“For millions in Europe and America,” he writes, Catholicism is “finished” — “permanently associated with sexual scandal, rather than the gospel of Jesus Christ.” Perhaps the sexual scandal is not the chief culprit, but church leadership’s inability to respond adequately is certainly a symptom of something deep seated. More and more I contemplate the possibility that Douthat may be right. What do others think?

Millions may be finished with the Church, but Christ promised the Church will last to the end. It will never be finished.

The remnant will persevere.

I am very sad about the scandal to the laity and, especially, the youth of the Church. It will be a long, hard road back to the Church. May Christ hold those responsible accountable!

No, the Church is not ‘finished’. There have been other times, in the past, that the reputation of the Catholic Church has been tainted by actions of her people. She has survived, and will continue to do so, if her people keep their eyes on Jesus, and grow in holiness with Him.
