A Mexican resident who says he was sexually abused by a priest as a child is suing the Roman Catholic Cardinal of Los Angeles and Mexico's top-ranking Catholic cleric, alleging they aided and abetted the abuse by moving the priest between dioceses as allegations piled up against him.

After knowingly transferring a priest with “homosexual problems” from Mexico to an informed Los Angeles diocese, I wonder if Cardinal Mahoney remembered to thank Cardinal Rivera.

I see the antisemitic Presbyterians are still on their blitzkrieg.

Indont know the facts in this case , but if a Priest messed with my kid, I would not call the Church, I would call the law.
These men should have been jailed.

We've learned on these threads that then Cardinal, now Pope, Ratzinger wrote a letter in 2001 to all his bishops which reminded them the "papal secret" was invoked for any accusation against any priest. If the victim when to his family, his teachers or the police with his accusations instead of going to church authorities alone, he would be excommunicated.

And we've learned that this secrecy was invoked for 10 additional years after the victim reached the age of 18, under thread of excommunication.

These facts explain why so many kept quiet for so long.

My Presbyterian relatives fought in WWII for the Allies.

Unlike your pope.

It's Mahony, not Mahoney. (There's no "honey" involved, believe me.)

That's one episcopal retirement that's already in progress, well before its "due date". Cardinals who are in good standing and in good health don't have coadjutors appointed for them.

Can't happen too soon for me.

Unlike your pope.

The Pope, as you may know, was a draftee who deserted his post and walked home, risking a death sentence in doing so.

Both of these statements are false.

The "10 additional years after the victim reached age 18" apparently refers to then-Cardinal Ratzinger extending the canonical statute of limitations on reporting abusers, thus making it easier for the church to prosecute them, rather than harder.

Ratzinger deserted at the same time most of the German army was deserting in the face of the oncoming Allied assault.

For the same reason.

German soldiers had lost the war and wanted to escape rather than face capture and retribution.

I'm glad you wrote that. A year or two after his "retirement" we'll hear reports that he wasn't forced out, but that it was all his decision.

You may or may not know this, but Pope Benedict XVI’s WWII history is a favorite memes of the anti-Catholic bigots on FR. Many have educated themselves thoroughly in every half-baked vicious rumor they can find, about him.

Which is surprising, considering the anti-semitic positions of many of the reformers. And their “churches.”

I can only conclude that they would rather criticize the Holy Father for ANYTHING, true or false, than examine their own consciences.

That is not why “papal secrecy “ is invoked. RC apologists can say that till the cows come home, but it won’t make it true.

People are not stupid. “Papal secrecy” means just what it sounds like it means. It means keep your mouth shut or you’re out of the church.

And Ratzinger’s letter has been posted many times. It says what it says...

Did not you read the thread about the Rabbi who said that the Catholic Church did more to SAVE Jews that anyone else during World War II? He lauded Pope Pius Xii of whom you speak ill.

“Forgive them, they know not what they do.”
