Job 40:15-24 Behemoth
15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. 16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. 17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. 18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. 19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. 20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. 21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. 22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. 23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. 24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares. http://www.answersincreation.org/job4041a.htm There is one certainty about Job 40-41 they are not dinosaurs that lived 6,000 years ago. With the possibilities presented, I leave it up to the reader to decide for themselves what the correct answer is. We probably wont know for certain until we get to heaven.
What do I believe? I lean toward the dinosaur theory. You may say, How can Bible writers, such as David in Psalm 74, write about a dinosaur if it lived 65 million years ago? This is simple. There were certainly dinosaur fossils available in Bible times.
They are in the rocks now, so they must have been in the rocks then. David, and others, probably saw these fossils, and wrote about them (see Paleontology Pioneers and Aboriginal Dinosaurs?
Do you agree with this theory?
In your wildest dreams; pass the opium!
Wrong again.
There were a few threads earlier this year here discussing the fact that the bones of many of the dinos were essentially hard and hollow. (like a brass tube, wow!)
It didn’t say “like”. The verses explicitly state bones made of brass. Look at it again.
Bronze, I meant.
Elephants are not native to Arabia; the Syrian elephants were brought in from India as animals of war, and elephants were gone from Egypt well before the rise of the Egyptian empire (predating Job and Abraham).
Ill try again.
An elephants tail is utterly incapable of moving like a cedar tree. It is capable of making curling movements, like a dogs tail, a snake, even a rope, but a tree? no.
I do believe you are completely wrong on this. In fact, here is a great video of an elephant's tail swinging like a swaying tree, not curling like a dog's tail or snake or rope.
In fact, I don't think an elephant's tail can curl like a dog or snake; I don't think they have the structure to allow curling (just like cows). Here's a great introduction on the physiology of elephants. The tail is part of the vertebrae and you'll see it's explicitly mentioned that the movement of the vertebrae is limited. An elephant's tail simply does not have the skeletal structure allowing it to curl like a snake or rope.
And the cedar in my front yard (about 110 feet tall) bends quite a bit when we get good stiff winds. As do the other firs and cedars around my house. They bend and sway like that video, and bend a lot. Cedar is actually a good wood for bending as it is soft and very wet and yields a lot before snapping (as opposed to hardwoods like oak and hickory).
In fact, cedar is one of the softest woods out there, used for canoe building and lots of other wood-bending projects because it is so soft and compliant. It takes no moisture to bend relatively thin strips of cedar, and with just the slightest amount of steaming you can bend some amazingly small radii.
And that CLEAR STATEMENT is that the tail MOVES like a cedar tree, not that the tail itself is like a cedar tree. Read the verse again, please:
Job 40:17a - He moveth his tail like a cedar
You're the one who ignores the clear statement in God's word. James' analogy was 100% correct and 100% topical. The tail moves like a cedar, the tail is NOT like a cedar except for how it moves.
Guess what - the bones of an elephant are also quite open and hollow. Source. The bones are perforated and open with channels, making them hollow.
I reccomend a trip to the zoo for you!
You are so wrong about elephant tails its breathtaking!
How so? You mean that they cannot swing like a tree? Is that a fake video that I posted, clearly showing an elephant’s tail swinging gently from side to side, like a tree in the breeze? Or will you admit your error in the face of video proof that your statement “they do not move like trees” is wrong?
As far as a zoo, no need to do so; I see them all the time in Thailand when I am there (2-3 times a year, for 1-2 weeks at a time - mainly in Chaiyaphum but a good amount of time in Chang Mai as well). I can’t rightly remember seeing their tails coiling like a snake or rope; they can bend pretty good, but forming complete coils? Don’t remember that...
God created (worked) for 6 days, and took the 7th off. Later, His instructions were to honor the Sabbath, as He had rested on the 7th, Himself.
The creation (work) was performed as an example for how we should conduct our lives--work for 6, rest on the seventh.
It's interesting that a woman's skeleton was found there too. It's thought that she was thrown in some 9,000 years ago. She evidently had a bad abscess in her teeth and some speculate that she may have been seen as demon haunted or such. I've heard her described as the oldest homicide on LA’s books.
There's a heck of a lot of petroleum still under LA. The Bigs passed on much of it, but some of the leases have been snapped up by small local firms and they're still producing. Go down Pico & La Cienega some time and check out some of the odder looking buildings. One looks like a church with a steeple at first glance, until you see it moving around. It's actually part of a rig servicing about 6 wells!
You are insane!
Trees don’t grow upside down.
Seriously? I mean, really, that’s how you’re going to back out and avoid admitting your error? Because something swaying gently back and forth, pinned to the top, is so radically different from something swaying back and forth pinned at the bottom that you cannot make any comparison whatsoever?
Enjoy... I cannot open your eyes for you...
Thank you for admitting how absurd your upside down tree twist was.
God’s word works as written, and your desire to diminish it not withstanding.
There is no purpose to your manipulation, since the evidence that dinos recently died off is deep and broad in every culture on Earth.
A time-bound creation implies the creator was time-bound as well. What’s the need for a god-entity to rest, if not for it being time-bound?
Nope. It doesn't. It merely says that was they way He chose to conduct it.
Sometimes my husband says my hands are like "meat hooks". :o)
But that doesn’t explain the need for rest.
Why couldn’t a simple commandment be ordered, instead of personal demonstration? Not to mention the fact that it was the entity which rested, and not the entity demonstrating resting. There’s a big difference between the two.
