The whole point of Evangelical Christianity is a consumerist-oriented do your own thing approach to Jesus
The truth is that Evangelicals believe that on Judgment day, when all sins are exposed, when there will be no excuses, that the only thing that will stand between me and the terrible and perfect judgment of a sin less God ... is Jesus.
Every single person will have to answer for themselves and their own actions. A priest will not answer for me because they are going to be busy answering for themselves. Neither will the Bishop, Pope, Pastor, Neighbor, or spouse. Even if God allows them to speak on my behalf... it wont matter because the only thing that will make a difference is Jesus saying to God, this one is one of mine and I paid the price for their sin.
I would further point out that the Bible teaches us to take on the terrible responsibility for our own salvation:
Philippians 2:12
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyednot only in my presence, but now much more in my absencecontinue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
I don’t want to debate religion with you. My point in posting that was not to argue for or against evangelical christianity. It was to illustrate how offensive, ugly, hateful, intolerant and unchristian the original post was. I am offended by posts and statements like the one that started this thread, in which prideful and spiteful people go out of their way to insult and denigrate Catholics, who are after all their fellow Christians. And by people arrogant enough to think everyone should buy into the idea that their judgment is superior to, say, St. Jerome or St. Augustine, without offering any proof. I guess the followers of this religious tendency operate outside the concept of Christian charity. I respect your beliefs, please respect mine.
