Featured Term (selected at random):

THESIS

In scholastic philosophy and theology, a proposition to be explained, proved, and defended. Philosophical theses are proved from established premises and a carefully structured reasoning process. Dogmatic theses are established on the testimony of Sacred Scripture and tradition, the teaching authority of the Church, the statements of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, and theological reasoning consistent with the faith of historic Catholicism. (Etym. Latin thesis, from Greek thesis, a thing laid down, a proposition.)
