If this is how it goes for Haiti, how will it go for a country that’s been legally murdering infants for a generation?

You make Roberston sound logical.

This man claims to know our Lord Jesus Christ, but he surely doesn’t

I is a shame when age shrinks one's brain.

Time for Pat to sew his lips shut, and find a quiet place away from the maddening crowds.

"Shut up, Pat."

Ping to Gamecock, as possibly of interest to the YBPDLNPL list.

Sin has natural consequences yes. Our sin affects others. A mother who takes drugs will pass on the addiction to her baby.

All natural disasters and man made evil IS a result of sin. God created a perfect world and man’s sin ruined it. IOW the sin of Adam and Eve affected us all and the entire planet.

However, Pat is talking about the consequences of sin. He is talking about a direct judgement from God for a certain sin (pact with the devil).

After carefully reading this Robertson was not condoning the aborting of children in China but was explaining the mindset and reasoning why the Chinese government set the policy to deal with their socio-economic challenges.

Maybe so, but can anyone identify what it is about Haiti that keeps it a perpetual mess in almost every sense of the word while the OTHER COUNTRY on the SAME ISLAND (Dominican Republic), while not exactly heaven on earth, is far less of a mess? There’s gotta be SOMETHING. Did DR get all the natural resources? All the smart people? All the GOOD people? Or is it something about the culture?

They get the hard workers from Haiti who go there to work. One reason why agriculture in Haiti is crap compared to the DR is because many years ago the DR passed forestry laws and more or less kept them enforced. Haiti burned up everything to make charcoal for cooking. So flying from the DR to Haiti you see a mountain go from forested to bare rock. Once this happens rain cycles are severely screwed up and everything that depends on them.

Also Haiti was started by pirates on that side of Hispaniola. Their slaves eventually overthrew them and then enslaved the population, overran the Dominican Republic, and got their butts kicked back to the western side by Duarte, Mella, and Sanchez in the Restauracion in 1865.

The death of the children has nothing to do with a judgment from God—this occured many times as written in the Bible. Whole families, including children, were effected for the sins of one person.

Voodoo isn’t the way its portrayed in the movies.” Really?

Well, it's not all zombies and voodoo dolls, and that's about the only way I've seen it portayed in movies. Haitian voodo is really West African vodun, the animist religion of the Yorubas, with a glaze of Roman Catholicism over the top in that many of the African gods have been renamed after Catholic saints. They believe in one God, Bondye (after the French "Bon Dieu"--Good God), but he is distant and doesn't involve himself in earthly matters, so the people pray to the "loas," the African spirits/saints. During rituals, sometimes people will fall into ecstatic trances and "channel" one of these spirits, rather like some Christian sects will speak in tongues.

It's also a very community-based religion as well, emphasizing family and charity. What the movies tend to concentrate on is the Bokors, or sorcerors, who are considered evil by mainstream voodoo.

The kernel of truth that lies behind Robertson's statement is that in 1791, there was allegedly a voodoo ceremony in which the spirit of Ezili Dantor (associated with the Virgin Mary) possessed a priestess, leading the others attending to pledge their loyalty to the uprising against the French.

After Jesus died on the cross, the sins of the World were cleansed.

The forces in the World and the Universe are what they are. They are neither directed at us as punishment, nor are they selective in regards to who or what they effect. They simply exist in their own respect.

To say they can be channeled and used as some vindictive divine force against us is not only ignorant, it is completely against what the Bible illustrates. What the Bible makes abundantly clear is, when disaster strikes, those who keep their faith in God strong and reach out to help other victims and be strong in the name of God are who are truly blessed and righteous. For them, will be an eternal reward.

Those who react with blame, hatred and despair will be lost with the aftermath and destruction of the storm; Like chaff in the wind. As will those who bear false witness to God's word. Pat Roberts falls into the latter category.

I totally agree brother. I believe in God and Jesus Christ, but do not care at all for organized religion.

Some of these posters in this thread are off of their rockers as much as Pat Robertson.

Do you mean, "...were affected by the sins of one person"?

What does your comment have to do with what Pat Robertson said?

Pat Robertson believes that to be safe from the wrath of God, people have to be Christian enough to suit him. Haiti was not so obviously (to Pat) the wrath of God was unleashed upon him. Do you seriously believe that if Pat Robertson and many like him found themselves weilding the reins of power in the US they would not try to fundamentally change things as radically as Obama is. They would but to the other side and while I would not mind living in "Leave it to Beaver" land, I would not force it upon anyone. Something I feel Pat Robertson and others like him would not hesitate to do. God's will is not meant to be forced upon anyone. Unless you screech "Allah Ahkbar" as you are doing it.

good point; your analysis is that we are going through a slow death based on the sins of this county. Not saying I belief it, but it is a good point.
