Hate to burst the bubble, but this Stupak Amendment is a Red Herring by the Dems. They’ll let it pass, because they know that even if it makes it through Congress and the President, that the SCOTUS will strike it down.

Trusting Dems, any Dems, to be moral is a huge mistake.

There is no trust here. On the contrary, this has turned into a vise around Mme. Pelosi. As Hudson notes in the closing paragraph:

As for the person who started this ball rolling, Pelosi finds herself in a box of her own making. She can't weaken the amendment language without losing a good number of Democratic House votes, as well as that of the lone Republican, Rep. Joseph Cao (R-LA). And the U.S. bishops would consider it a betrayal of the highest order if the health-care bill, containing their much-desired public option, is defeated by a Catholic speaker trying to make good on her promises to the abortion lobby.

Caught between a rock and a hard place.

the SCOTUS will strike it down.

Or, more likely, it will disappear in House-Senate reconciliation. That is why it does not matter what gets passd as "healthcare." All of the gimmicks necessary to get it passed will be stripped out again in conference and it will go back for a 51 vote passage in its worst possible form.
