Queen 'Appalled' at Church of England Moves, Claim Vatican Moles
The Daily Telegraph ^ | 10/3/09 | Richard Eden

When Pope Benedict visits this country next year, he is expected to stay at Buckingham Palace as a guest of the Queen. The warmth of her welcome will come as no surprise to the Pontiff, if senior sources at the Vatican are to be believed.

According to informants quoted in The Catholic Herald, the Queen has "grown increasingly sympathetic" to the Catholic Church over the years while being "appalled", along with the Prince of Wales, at developments in the Church of England.

The usually well-informed newspaper adds that the Queen, who is the Supreme Governor of the C of E, is "also said to have an affinity with the Holy Father, who is of her generation".

In July, The Sunday Telegraph disclosed that the Queen had told the heads of a traditionalist group, formed in response to the liberal direction of some parts of the Anglican Communion, that she "understood their concerns" about the future of the 80 million-strong global church.

One leading evangelical said: "We found the letters very supportive."

Her intervention was predicted to have surprised many because the group, called the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans, was feared by some to be a divisive force and one of its senior figures was this accused of being homophobic.

The then Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, called on homosexuals to repent. He said the Church of England must stick to the Biblical teaching that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

The Church of England has a very “tolerant” attitude toward Islam. I think the Queen has caught on.

Since the Queen is the head of the C of E, she has the power to do something directly. Apparently, she is reluctant to use the power she has.

The Queen's religious authority, like he political authority as the British head of state, is largely symbolic.

She's little more than a figurehead.

Her family is actually German. Rowan Williams the head on the Church of England is an idiot, like the fake Catholic idiots at Notre Dame and the loberal American Catholic Church.

Williams is a dhimni apologist who probably prays to Mecca. I think the Queen is concerned the Church of Enhland may implode in large pat due to the idiot running the church into the ground. Williams was talking about sharia law.

Wasn’t the more conservative (read less gay) Anglican Church in the U.S. talking about closer relations with the Catholic Church? I think Pope Benedict has alsp made some good ties with the Orthodox Chrch recently as well.

I think the only churches in England with parishoners are Catholic Churches - many with Polish immigrants. I know evangelicals are trying to make inroads as well.

I think Pope Benedict and Queen are worried about the future of Europe and England.

Too little, too late.

The Queen could truly light a fire under a lot of bottoms if she were to make a very, very carefully worded diplomatic statement mentioning the Catholic church, the CofE, and the word “reconciliation”.

It would have about the same impact if she said that “Brussels can go bugger off.”

I think there has been a MAJOR consolidation going on:
=Blair and Gingrich convert to Catholicism
=Orthodox Church and Vatican kiss and make up
=US Lutheran church votes for either gay marriage or something on the gay agenda. Conservative Lutherans pole-axed. Reconciliation coming between conservative branch and Catholicism?
=CofE and US Episcopalian issues. Possible reconciliation?

Seems to me, in face of Islam sweeping into Europe and the US [Palestinian ‘resettlement’ approved by Congress. Going to Michigan I should think] The one religion that could hold it’s own is Catholicism. Older than Islam, largest penetration [forgive the word] globally, two thousand years of writings and theological development.

Or maybe I need another tinfoil cap?

The Queen is NOT the head of the C of E. Jesus Christ is the head of the C of E. The Queen is the governor.

Interesting. Constitutionally, she would be well within her rights to re-establish the Catholic church as DotF. Historically, the monarchs of England were very Catholic.

That opinion, apparently, makes him a "homophobe".

Here's my definition of the word: "Homophobe" = "anyone who is in any way not entirely and totally supportive of anything the gay lobby wants".

She will not be remembered as the monarch to give up the CofE if she has anything to say about it. Britain has always had an independent tradition from Rome due to the real fear of political machinations from the Vatican. Going down in history as the monarch who ‘gave up the British church’ is the last thing she wants to have as a legacy.

If I were she I would dispatch some people to do a “Thomas a Becket” on the Archbishop of Canterbury.
