St. Anselm is really a tragic figure. He is best known for:

1) an invalid argument for the existence of God;

2) a theory of the Atonement that is wholly conditioned by medieval social and legal concepts, which has led millions of people to imagine that the Father takes delight in the suffering and death of the Son.
