My point was to contrast infinite (of an endless amount of time) with eternal (outside of time). Infinite is what most people think of when they hear eternal, but the sacrifice of Christ is not of an infinite duration.

The sacrifice of Christ must be infinite. Our ability to use it to our benefit is limited in a human sense, but if the sacrifice itself weren't infinite it wouldn't work would it?

Infinite doesn't refer to time at all. It simply means not measurable or outside measurable limits. You can use it to refer to a measure of time, but time is a human construct.

The Atonement is infinite by time and volume.
