Pope Benedict clears way for Cardinal John Newman to become first English saint in 40 years

Cardinal Newman, the Anglican vicar who shocked Victorian Britain by converting to Roman Catholicism, is a step closer to becoming the first English saint for 40 years.
Pope Benedict XVI yesterday announced the beatification of John Henry Newman, meaning he will be given the title 'Blessed'.
It follows the recognition by the Vatican of the healing of an American man with a severe spinal condition as a miracle which came about as a result of praying to the Cardinal.
A second miracle is needed to recognise Newman as a saint.
The Pope's decision to beatify him was welcomed by Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster and leader of the Catholic Church in England and Wales.
He said: 'I am delighted to learn this news, which will be warmly welcomed by Catholics around the world.'
Father Paul Chavasse, provost of the Birmingham Oratory, the church that Newman founded, said: 'The Holy Father's decision is one of great significance for the whole Church.'
Newman will be beatified during a solemn Mass in the next year. When Gordon Brown visited the Vatican in February he invited Pope Benedict to Britain to perform the ceremony in person, possibly at Wembley Stadium.

I believe the Catholic Church uses the “two miracles” test simply as confirmation of sainthood.

That’s quite a devaluation to broadly suggest that “all” Christians are saints. It’s the “life” of the Christian that matters who follows His teachings as handed down by scripture and tradition. Individuals who lead holy lives are saints but the “two miracles” test is again earthly “confirmation” of their sainthood.
Moreover, I find the whole "Holy Father" affair to be un-Biblical.

I think the person making the claim has the burden of proof. But of course assuming you are correct, doesn’t it really beg the question as to “who” and “what” and “which” belief makes for a Christian. The last time I checked there were over 25,000 different sects of Christianity. Remember David Koresh?
Look at what Paul wrote:

If it isn't in the Bible, it isn't true. The Bible is God's handbook for life all that is true. Christ said he was the Truth, the Life, and the Way.
When I hear your claim about "25,000" different Christian sects and then the strange comparison to David Koresh, I really must shake my head. Do you believe that? The Bible says we Christians are of the same body. I know Methodists, Baptists, and Presbyterians who all volunteer at the same drug and alcohol center. They certainly behave as Christ's sheep.
I was raised a Catholic. But, I never knew who Christ was. It was one of those "25,000" sect radical snake handling Protestants that read a Bible to me. Then, I discovered that this Christ is alive.
Tell me, why are you so quick to criticize these faiths that are not under Rome? What have they done that is not Biblical?

If you believe the Apostle Paul was wrong to call all Christians saints, I suppose you will have to let him know *you are not pleased* at all! Naughty Paul! :-)
While you two sort that out, I’ll just go with the Bible
and not add to it.
