Gluttony is a sin that can’t be hidden.

Another example of upside down world. Back in the day a restaurant with large portions would be praised for giving people their money’s worth. Now their condemned for making people fat.

> The communist way is to soften you up through vice.

That’s Satan’s way, too.

This is silly. If you care about healthy food why would you eat out?

I care about healthy food. I eat out. The two are not mutually exclusive. And you have to moderate. I've reduced my Red Lobster habit to about once a year.

Most restaurants have some items on the menu that won't max out your daily intake.

It would be nice if casual, family restaurants focused on higher quality ingredients instead of big portions. The atmosphere is so stuffy at most good restaurants.

I’m sure that’s a sin too. Might cause leftovers that get thrown out.

But that’s okay. My restaurant sells me an indulgence with each meal...

Your argument seeks to change the subject. The subject is SIZE of portions, not specific items. Further, you asserted that it was a proven fact. So far, you have failed to provide the specific proof.

It’s only over-sized if you try to eat it all in one sitting. Most folks come out of there with a bag.

The challenge I made was to prove it. The original assertion was that it is a PROVEN fact. So far, no proof has been made.

The issue is not whether it is a fact, but whether it is a proven fact. Dig deep for proof.

Minus that proof, in what way does your assertion differ from Al Gore’s assertion that Global Warming is settled science?

You really don’t understand basic economics, do you?
It’s OK, just admit it.

I’ve actually heard something similar preached in the pulpit. To paraphrase: Homosexuality is a popular sin to preach about from the pulpit because few if any parishioners are themselves homosexual. Gluttony isn’t popular because there are way too many fatties in the pews who are going to loosen up their belts after a 90 minute shovel fest at a local buffet as soon as the service is over.

Well, actually, yes I do. You, on the other hand, do not appear to understand the concept of proof. Also see #51.

OK, here’s specific proof:
A restaraunt across the street was famous for its “two pound burritio”.
The thing was so huge, it was sickening. Both in size and content.
After a while, they couldn’t give them away.

They no longer offer that item.

I refuse to believe you’re actually this dense, so I can only assume you have another point to make?

Here's a link, for those interested, that calculates how many calories you should be eating per day. It's individual, and you may be surprised at how many calories you should eat per day as opposed to how many calories you actually eat on a daily basis.

And yet, you’re unable to demonstrate the most basic understanding of “Supply and Demand”.

Fabulous.

my biggest complaint is the portions are too large for me to consume in one sitting..I solve that by eating maybe a third and getting a doggy bag..I spread that meal out over a period of a full day or

We do the same thing. There's a place we go to that we get 3 steak dinners out of one serving, and the steak tastes really good reheated in the microwave.

Then there was the Chinese buffet that offered take-out. They didn't charge by weight like other places, just give you a container and let you fill it. Towards the end, the lady behind the buffet was telling me "You close lid! You close lid now!" I think I got 3 dinners and a lunch out of that one!

Yes, and I’ve been making that other point. You seem to have tunnel vision and are not seeing it.

BTW, your example still doesn’t provide proof of your original point. In your explanation, you say that even the content was sickening. Unless you can prove that the portion size was the reason people stopped ordering it, you haven’t proven your original assertion.

Also, unless you can establish as a fact that customers began ordering less quantity overall, rather than simply substituting other items that added up to similar portion sizes instead, this anonymous restaurant doesn’t offer proof of your original assertion.

See how difficult it is the actually PROVE something? Go back to the drawing board. Logic could be your friend, if you are willing to make use of it.
