Pope Benedict on Friday ventures into the political, cultural and religious minefield of the Middle East, starting a trip to Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories that will likely be his most difficult. Benedict will be carrying a lot of personal baggage as he starts the trip, which some Church observers see as another chance to mend fences with both Muslims and Jews after comments or actions perceived as insulting to them.
