Is the Church of 7th Day Adventist an Apostate Church?
Vanity | March 6th, 2009 | TaraP

I was thinking of attending there worship. I have admired many of thier teachings on Sabbath Observance Healthy Living, Chatiable Giving and Prophetic teachings. However I am not sure if all thier doctrine is sound.

I understand Ellen G White is the founder of this church In brief, she was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world.

During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender.

Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams.

Who are the Apostate Churches today? can they easily be recognized?. It is simple to recognize apostate teachings, such as acceptance of homosexuality or teaching another way of salvation other than Jesus Christ, but is there additional teachings of apostate we should be looking for?...If we are not observing the Saturday Sabbath are we apostate? Thoughts on this?

Well, for most religious folks, an apostate church is every church but their own. You probably had better study the doctrines of that church, check it against the scriptures, and pray about it before making your decision. There is no other “ultimate authority” than God on what is or is not an apostate church.

I believe the author of “Kingdom of The Cults” removed SDA from his list of cults some time ago and gave the reasons why. You might want to check out the latest edition of that very well researched classic from your library if they have it.

Sorry I won’t be much help about your questions..just thought I’d tell you that I grew up in this church..well, until probably middle school. My mom was raised methodist, my dad.SDA. My mom tried to adopt this church as her faith, but really had a hard time. We stopped going as a family. My dad attended some times. Now he attends weekly, my mom attends the Methodist church weekly..and I married a catholic and attend that weekly. I of course am really conflicted about all the flavors of Christianity. I’m interested in what responses you receive to this post.

I think a good basis of apostacy is the position of the Trinity, and acceptance of creeds, particularly the Nicene etc..and the divinity and duality of Christ

There are a lot of Seventh Day Adventists here in the Northern NV area. Every single one of them I have met so far is extra super-duper friendly and nice.

GOTTA BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM! WHAT ARE THEY HIDING?!

/sarcasm

Look up “Millerites”

The Rev. Miller predicted the end of the world, several times.

Of course, he was wrong.

Miller's followers formed the 7th Day Adventist and the Jehovah's Witness's after that.

I respect anyone who searches for spiritual truth. I am not putting anyone down, but -—

As a Catholic I can tell you that my church respects the Baptism of nearly every other Christian Faith. We do NOT accept the 7th Day Adventist or Jehovah Baptisms.

BTW, I usually think it is wrong for the various faiths to attack each other on this Forum, we need to work together. However, the Jehovah's refuse to vote, anyway, so -— well, they don't count. Not sure of the 7th Day folks where voting is concerned.

When they come by, I get out my Rosary and say that I will pray with them if they will pray with me. They usually leave, lol.

Well, the problem is that even the Doctrine of the Trinity is subject to arguments among churches and questions as to whether it is scriptural.

The SDA hardcorps are some of the most sincere and well intentioned charitable Christian believers out there.

They send missionaries and build hospitals; they give and give and give.

However....while they claim to live by grace they deny it in their low observing lifestyle.

Yes, it is healthy and moral and good...but they frequently judge themselves and each other’s righteousness based upon observing laws which Jesus Christ supposedly fulfilled.

The don’t really research the Bible for discovery but for debating points on Sister White’s view on things:WWEBBD!

Could you do worse? Yes.

I think GOD recognizes many different faiths, if they first recognize Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the World they Love GOD with all thier heart, mind and soul, and love thier neighbor as themselves.

One thing that has always kind of nagged at me was the Sabbath DAY..It is in the Commandments of GOD and I cannot find scriptual basis in why it was changed.

Look into the old SDA claims about Ellen G. White and you’ll know everything about SDA you need to know.

The SDA is a sect founded in the 19th century. That’s more than 1800 years AFTER Jesus established His Church. What else does someone really need to know?

Just stick to the biblical basics about Jesus Christ. What a church does with Jesus Christ shows whether or not it’s in apostasy. HE is the pivot point.

I tell Witnesses and Mormons that I’m a born again Christian. That usually clears them out pretty fast, LOL.

Nothing changed.

But are you required to observe the law for salvation or righteousness?

Read Romans and Galations.

If you are observing one law for righteousness, then you must observe them all.

My best friend’s mother was a 7th Day Adventist and she felt that if you didn’t worship on Saturday, you were destined for hell. That’s about the only thing I’ve noticed that was surely wrong.

They are heretics for sure, and they are also in schism. But they are only apostate if they abandon or reject faith in Christ.

See excerpts from http://oce.catholic.com/index.php?title=Heresy below:

The right Christian faith consists in giving one’s voluntary assent to Christ in all that truly belongs to His teaching. There are, therefore, two ways of deviating from Christianity: the one by refusing to believe in Christ Himself, which is the way of infidelity common to Pagans and Jews; the other by restricting belief to certain points of Christ’s doctrine selected and fashioned at pleasure, which is the way of heretics. The subject-matter of both faith and heresy is, therefore, the deposit of the faith, that is, the sum total of truths revealed in Scripture and Tradition as proposed to our belief by the Church. The believer accepts the whole deposit as proposed by the Church; the heretic accepts only such parts of it as commend themselves to his own approval.

Heresy differs from Apostasy (q.v.). The apostate abandons wholly the faith of Christ either by embracing Judaism, Islamism, Paganism, or simply by falling into naturalism and complete neglect of religion; the heretic always retains faith in Christ. Heresy also differs from schism. Schismatics, says St. Thomas, in the strict sense, are they who of their own will and intention separate themselves from the unity of the Church. The unity of the Church consists in the connection of its members with each other and of all the members with the head. Now this head is Christ whose representative in the Church is the supreme pontiff. And therefore the name of schismatics is given to those who will not submit to the supreme pontiff nor communicate with the members of the Church subject to him. Since the definition of Papal Infallibility, schism usually implies the heresy of denying this dogma. Heresy is opposed to faith; schism to charity; so that, although all heretics are schismatics because loss of faith involves separation from the Church, not all schismatics are necessarily heretics, since a man may, from anger, pride, ambition, or the like, sever himself from the communion of the Church and yet believe all the Church proposes for our belief (II-II, Q. xxix, a. 1). Such a one, however, would be more properly called rebellious than heretical.
