No, the Mormons who came to your door were no “spreading the gospel.” They were spreading their “new” gospel (hence the “latter day” in their full name “Latter Day Saints”). This “new” gospel is, by definition, unbiblical. Therefore, what they are spreading is heresy, which will lead many to hell.

They were nice, I’m certain. And deceiving many into eternal punishment with their false gospel.

I'm not a very religious person. I have no ill will to the Mormons. They have their beliefs and you have yours. I really don't understand why so many Freepers have a problem with them. The two gentlemen who knocked on my door couldn't have been nicer to me. They didn't try to pressure me to join them, they just wanted a minute of my time to talk to me. I know this is heresy here to some people, but I don't believe Jesus wouldn't allow people into heaven if they are good people. Joseph Smith's a false profit, I agree, but for the most part they are decent people.
