Apostle of Ireland, born at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton, in Scotland, in the year 387; died at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland, 17 March, 493. [Some sources say 460 or 461. --Ed.]
He had for his parents Calphurnius and Conchessa. The former belonged to a Roman family of high rank and held the office of decurio in Gaul or Britain. Conchessa was a near relative of the great patron of Gaul, St. Martin of Tours. Kilpatrick still retains many memorials of Saint Patrick, and frequent pilgrimages continued far into the Middle Ages to perpetuate there the fame of his sanctity and miracles.

A Roman who spoke Latin and wears blue becomes the patron saint of Celtics who spoke Gaelic and whose color was green. Strange indeed.

The Ropmans described the Celts as wearing blue paint [woad, gold torques, chalked spiked hair, and large moustaches [and little else] when they fought them. Wheter or not the Celts got woad from the Picts, I don’t know.

St. Patrick’s Day was observed on the liturgical calendar on March 14th.
The Pope changed that day and the Solemnity of St. Joseph to March 15th because we are now in Holy Week.
NOTHING happens in Holy Week except Holy Week!

Well in my parish my Irish pastor will be celebrating Mass at 12:15PM and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t say it in Gaelic. LOL
