20 February 2008

Permission has been granted...

His Eminence, Franc Cardinal Rodé, Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life has communicated permission to establish a monastery for the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration here in San Antonio.

We can now prepare in earnest for the arrival of five nuns from Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Alabama. They will be taking up residence in our St. Joseph Parish House. There is, of course, a chapel there with the Blessed Sacrament, although they will be attending Mass ordinarily here at the parish. We’re looking forward to welcoming the Sisters as part of our extended “Atonement Family,” and we need to pray for them as they get ready to leave their present beloved monastery to begin this new work.

Oops, that should be San Antonio.

Oh, well, I think we can figure it out.

Mother Angelica will surely miss them, and her other Spiritual Daughters who have gone to Portsmouth, OH, and to France to restore some Poor Clares Monasteries.

I am certainly not forgetting her Phoenix Phive who are building a monastery, and establishing a foundation there.

Now, with Archbishop Jose Gomez extending an invitation to Mother’s Nuns to establish a foundation in San Antonio, and permission being granted by the Vatican, I have to say:

“Mother Angelica, you raised your girls right”

But ... but .... but ... < splutter > the nuns have to get rid of their habits, move out of the convent and get more in touch with the peeeeeeepul so they can remain relevant in today's world ...

Or some such drivel ...

I heard a lot of rot like that in the '70s, and the Orders that acted on such thinking are gone.

They're also being replaced.

The replacements ... are wearing habits.

Funny thing. Orthodoxy and a healthy respect for tradition beget vocations.

Thanks for that link. Funny how some don’t show up as live links and have to be copied into the address window rather than just clicked on.

Mystery to me.

Are you asking me, or are you asking those hippie nutballs from the ‘70s that threw away everything that seemed “traditional”, in order to be more “relevant”?

Thanks for the post. A couple of years ago we were blessed to have the Poor Clares begin building a monastery in Phoenix area Desert Nuns . Now this great news for San Antonio. Oh what God has done through that little nun down in Alabama. Mother Angelica's amazing story continues.

All of that stuff is drivel — iuncluding the habits.

I was only pointing out one thing that is important for the nuns in habits.............praying!

(Granted some not in habits do pray also, but I’ll bet not as much!)

Mother Angelica has something special there in Alabama. Young Catholic women from all over the United States (including one recently from my home state of MI) are joining up. It is a rather remarkable thing when a young woman decides to give herself to Christ and not only that, join an order all the way across the country, and with real habits.

It seems only right that Mother Angelica spread the wealth, and send her Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration all over the United States and the world.

We have Poor Clares here in my community, and God Bless them for their service to Christ, but they do not wear habits like Mother Angelica’s Poor Clares, and they are not nearly as many in number.

sockmonkey -

And so did you! Do you think your daughter will be one of the ones coming to San Antonio? Or I guess I should say “going back home” to Our Lady of the Atonement...
