When I read St. Augustine's works, I don't have the impression that he died more or less 1,600 years ago, I feel he is a modern man: a friend, a contemporary who speaks to me, he speaks to us with his fresh and modern faith.

As someone else pointed out on a blog regarding this subject,

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

And as another pointed out, recent events may cause more people to actually read the address Benedict XVI was going to give than would have if things had gone smoothly.

I can’t find the Italian news report that I read earlier today, but it said that when Benedict XVI arrived at Paul VI Hall for the general audience that the students held up banners and chanted “Liberty! Liberty!” At some point during the audience, the Holy Father thanked them for their presence and sympathy.

Whgat a great teacher he is! He warms the heart of youth as John Paul did, although the attraction is of a different kind. He reduces matters to the essential. I must also say that his translator is wonderful.

I am certain that at least one publisher will once the Holy Father finishes the series. There are at least two collections out of the series of catecheses Benedict XVI gave on the Apostles.
