I personally like the typology list above, but with families, doing the world one makes sense.

Symbols — ornaments can be made from cardboard with pictures from magazines. They can be very simple — or you can do the playdough/baker’s clay thing too.

I’ve seen both and they look very nice.

A great way to count down to Christmas (24 days) and learn something every day — not just open a window on an Advent Calendar!

THanks for the interesting post. I had not heard of this custom before, and I have been a Catholic almost 50 years.

I have several pdf files and doc files of Jesse Tree ornaments that you can just print and hang on the tree as well as different readings for the month. Freepmail me if you’d like to have these files. I’d be happy to share what I’ve found!

This month I've had a series of sermons on the genealogy of Jesus Christ:

"The Genealogy of Jesus Christ: From Abraham to David" (Sermon on Matthew 1:1-6a)

"The Genealogy of Jesus Christ: From David to the Deportation" (Sermon on Matthew 1:1, 6b-11)

"The Genealogy of Jesus Christ: From the Deportation to the Christ" (Sermon on Matthew 1:1, 12-17)

"You Shall Call His Name Jesus" (Sermon for the Fourth Sunday in Advent), on Matthew 1:18-25

This is a wonderful activity to replace an Advent calendar if your family would like to do something different.

Consider it! Our priest did one several years ago in church and there was a lot of learning about why certain names and events were mentioned.

Have a prayerful and holy Advent.

The "Star of David" -- which wasn't a popular symbol of Jewry until the 18th c. when it was adopted by the Rothschilds (though it was known before then in post-Temple Judaism and is found in a few synagogue decorations) -- is actually a hexagram with 6 points, 6 equilateral triangles, forming a 6-sided hexagon interiorly. It is the ancient star of Remphan (Moloch , Chiun, or Saturn) and Ashtoreth mentioned in Amos 5:26 and Acts 7, and one of the most powerful symbols used in Freemasonry,

No, actually. There is no six-pointed star used in any Freemason symbolism of which I am aware. Nor have I ever seen it depicted on anything in such a way. The closest you might come is to a radiant Sun beaming down on working Masons, but that is clearly an entirely different symbol.
