sigh... call it foolishness if you will. It’s as plain as can be to me. Do you honestly think that a people separated geographically from Jerusalem for over 500 years would refer to that area any differently?
So you honestly think that Joseph Smith who you consider a fraud would have used “Jerusalem” to refer to this context if he were indeed writing the book instead of translating?
Some food for thought.

Nowandlater, thanks for posting those links! McConkie's last talk was superb, one of my all time favorites. I agree with your challenge to all the naysayers. Naysayers... take the time to listed to the final words of an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, listen to the last 3 minutes of his talk, given just days before his death, and then tell us you believe we don't believe in Jesus Christ, the Savior of mankind. (3rd video)
Nowandlater, perhaps you can point out that link one more time?

Okay, I watched it. Now what? It was quite a production, but it was decidedly Mormonism skewed to focus upon the Garden. What was the point, for you?

The focus of our worship is on Jesus. :)
I find it interesting that he said that in the coming days he will see the Lord and be received in His Glory. He was in good health at that time, but within days after the talk he died.

What was a production? The stuff at the end? That was produced 2 decades after his death and someone tacked it on the end of his final talk, which definitely stands on his own, and needs no production!

I rally hate to correct you after all the good work you have done here, but Elder McConkie knew he was dying, it was a miracle that he was able to speak at the conference, and he was standing there knowing he was going to die, and soon. I am a distant relative, and his daughter is in my ward, we have discussed this very talk, but I did not get to see it since I was in Taiwan on my mission at the time

Sorry didn’t know. I wasn’t really involved heavily in the Church at that time. I just heard he died right after.

Elsie, you are there to learn of God, he asks you.
First the officiator, who is leading the session tells you that you will need to keep the things of the temple sacred, then they ask if you are willing to do so of your own free will and choice, then they ask you to covenant with God that you will do so. The covenant is made and everyone who is to continue with that session has covenanted with God.
Why is this a problem for you?
Does HE 'ask' you in an AUDIBLE voice??
Why do you 'need' to??
It's a 'problem' for me (and you, too) that I can find NOWHERE in your Scriptures that REQUIRES you to 'do' the things that you 'do' in the temple.
NO 'commands' from GOD are found.
I find it ODD that you guys DO things that are NOT in your scriptures and, apparentl;y, have no justification for doing them.

There are plenty of things in this world you will not learn unless you join the group teaching it to their flock, why the obsession with us?Oh??
Like what?

I thought I had made that clear, perhaps not.Once again; you failed to answered the question of WHY you do it.
I am NOT asking you to 'reveal' any of your precious secrets; just the justification for keeping them secret.
Is THAT a big SACRED thing you cannot reveal as well??

Maybe your question is too vague, what exactly is it you want to know? I have tried to honestly answer your questions; is it truth that you are looking for?
See the above^

Elsie, I am going to church now, please do not equate a lack of responsiveness with any intended sleight on my part, thank you.No problem. I've learned that most folks on FR have a real life, too.
(We had a full day as well, getting set up for VBS this week. After the evening service we loaded 'ranch stuff' into the church as the theme this year is "Avalanche Ranch".)
[Note to self: it's NOT spelled the way it sounds - avalange!]
