You're right - a real tragedy for anyone to follow such a counterproductive path.

Girls' voices are thinner than boys' voices - I don't care for the sound of a girls' choir as opposed to a boys' choir.

Since I don't have any truck with most pop music, I have not kept up with the latest trends!

Johnny Cash? I like the man's music, but sacred music to me is more along the lines of the Cambridge Singers . . .

O Magnum Mysterium - Vittoria

Sing Joyfully -Byrd

Rutter and the Cambridge Singers are a classic illustration of the English sound in an adult choir. It's the way I was taught to sing (wish I sounded that good!)

Unless you have access to a university library or a large central library in a city, you probably won't find anything by Donn Byrne in the catalog.

I was shocked about 15 years ago to discover that libraries throw out books wholesale just because they're "out of date", and put in all sorts of modern trash. Exactly what a library should NOT do - have a section for "best sellers", sure, but otherwise the library should be a conservator of literary tradition. You don't throw out good books to make room for modern trash just on the basis of age . . .

We have Charlotte-Mecklenburg, which is a pretty strong library system, but they didn't have it. Oh, well.

I have an alumni card to the Emory University library, which is just across town . . . they have plenty of Byrne, but most is in temporary storage while they do some renovations to the main library . . . probably nobody's checked any of them out since I did about five years ago (before I got my own copies). ABE (American Book Exchange) is a good place to look for used copies. You can get an American regular edition (Little, Brown small format) for five bucks. I went uptown and paid 40 dollars for a signed limited edition . . . I REALLY like this book!

I have an alumni card that's good in San Antonio :-).

It's no fun buying used books on line. No thrill.

I buy 'em any way I can find 'em. Most of the stuff I like is so obscure that the chances of my running into it in a bookshop are slim and none.

Another problem is in the South we don't have a lot of used book stores. Most books are lost to humidity and mildew unless they're in temperature controlled storage.
