John MacArthur said "Jack Hayford is a model of diligence, faithfulness to the Lord and enduring loyalty to a local church. It's the long haul that manifests integrity and proven character. Many have fallen in the battle. Hayford is still standing-a tribute to God's marvelous grace."

Yet, five years prior (1992), MacArthur wrote in his book Charismatic Chaos the following:

"Lest you think cranks, obscure eccentrics, or naive charismatic believers are the only ones who would make such claims,
listen to Jack Hayford, internationally known author, media minister, and pastor of The Church on the Way in Van Nuys, California.
Hayford told the Pentecostal Fellowship of North America that God has told him a new era is coming:

'Hayford ... related a vision in which he had seen Jesus seated on His throne at the right hand of the Father. In Hayford's vision, Jesus began to lean forward and rise from his seat.

As the anointing caught in the folds of His garments, it began to splash out and fall over the church. Jesus said, "I am beginning to rise now in preparation for my second coming. Those who will rise with Me will share in this double portion of anointing."'"

[Charismatic Chaos, pp. 48-49; footnote on Hayford, "Pentecostals Set Priorities," Charisma (January 1991), p. 44.]

"On page 50 of Charismatic Chaos, MacArthur asks, "Did Jack Hayford actually see Christ rise from his seat next to God?" The obvious answer to that question (in the context of MacArthur's book) is "NO!"

So which John do you follow?

This is personal with you isn't it. You really are an enemy of John MacArthur despite your claims that he was lying when he said he had enemies out there.

Quite frankly I believe both statements by MacArthur. I consider Hayford to be a model of diligence, faithfulness and enduring loyalty and a tribute to God's grace. I also believe that Hayford's vision was probably not of the Lord. So what?

Hayford is a man of God and so is MacArthur. But apparently, unlike their detractors, both of them have feet of clay. Both of them have moments of hypocrisy and lapses of judgment. It must be nice to be so perfect.

I don't follow anyone. Not John MacArthur, Billy Graham or the Pope. People are fallible. They make mistakes and you'll be sorely disappointed if you place your faith and trust in them including this author.

Which view of Jack Hayford should I select based upon John MacArthur's testimony??? It is my feeling that if I'm truly interested, I will read Jack Hayford's works for myself and draw my own conclusions. Typically, I don't trust anything outside of what is written in the word of God, as cynical as that may sound.

Is JM vacillating? As a matter of principle and scripture it is NOT my place to judge anyone. People make mistakes and what someone believed 5 years ago can be a whole lot different than what they believe today. I know that's true with me. It was true with Augustine. It was true with the Apostle Paul. It's most likely is true with JM. I can only point out to people where I believe them to be in error but at the end of the day, we all make many mistakes (James 3:2).
