Thanks for the ping...this is one of my all time favorite hymns...thanks also for the history of the writing of this hymn...I do remember well, often hearing George Beverly Shea singing this hymn..

We had a lady in our church who had a wonderful, magnificent voice...I have never heard anyone since, who had such ability to bring everyone in church to tears, with her powerful, inspirational singing of wonderful hymns...

The choir always had its time to sing, but our beloved Sigrid, always sang a solo, just before the sermon...for many, this solo was the highpoint of the service...even the minister admitted, she was a tough act to follow...

'How Great Thou Art', was probably her most often requested solo, and she always obliged, as this was one of her favorites as well...

Thanks for the ping to this wonderful hymn, as it brought back so many memories of this wonderful woman...

I was in a praise band at a Catholic Charismatic prayer meeting in Maryland in the 1970s Just for fun, we started singing "How Great Thou Art" with a blues beat and rhythm structure. It works! The congregation praised God clapping their hands in rhythm.

(Note: This is for more informal gatherings, not the Eucharistic celebrations).
