1. Monday March 26, 2001 Eourth Week in Lent Reading I (Isaiah 7:10-14; 8:10) Reading II (Hebrews 10:4-10) Gospel (St. Luke 1:26-38)

Today we celebrate one of the greatest feasts in the Church year, the Feast of the Annunciation. It is a feast that most people do not think much about. Sometimes when we talk about the Incarnation, we talk about Christmas. Today is the feast of the Incarnation. The word Incarnation means in the flesh. Jesus became flesh; he took on human flesh. In the womb of His mother on the day of the Annunciation, He took His human nature to Himself. So today is really the feast of the Incarnation.

Today we celebrate this incredible feast which is the reason that on Sundays, when we pray the Creed, we bow at those words: the Lord became incarnate in the Blessed Virgin Mary and He became man. Those are the words that we bow at, it is not at the crucifixion, but at the Incarnation. Today we also have to pray the Creed and we will kneel at those words because of the feast that we celebrate. We actually kneel at the words of the Incarnatus est. Today is a wonderful feast and you see the way that God set it up. The sign that is given through Isaiah, a sign that would be unmistakable.

A sign that is absolutely impossible. God asks Ahaz, "Ask for a sign. Make it as high as the sky or as deep as the netherworld. Anything you want. Make it as preposterous as it might seem." Ahaz, who is one of the worst kings they ever had in Israel, suddenly become Mr. Pious and says, "Oh no! I am not going to tempt God," as if he had not been for all these years that he had been king already. So God outdoes humanity as He always does and gives us a sign that is so ridiculous, so impossible, that it cannot be mistaken. And yet people still do not believe.

We hear about the Incarnation in the Gospel of Saint Matthew. We also hear about it in the Gospel of Saint Luke, which is the Gospel that we heard today. It is the angel Gabriel coming to Mary, one of the most beautiful scenes in history. The angel of the Lord coming down to ask permission from the lowliest human being that ever walked the face of the earth. She calls herself the maidservant of the Lord, the lowest of the low, and she is the one to whom the angel comes. He bows down before her and asks her, in humility, if she would be the Mother of God. What a beautiful scene. How beautiful is the humility of Our Lady. Think about being in that position and an angel came to ask you something. We’d like to think that we would be willing to say, "Whatever God wants, absolutely!" Just think if an angel of the Lord appeared to you. Gabriel is one of the seraphim, which means the fiery ones, so he is one of the most glorious ones. Our idea of an angel is this little figure that you can see through with nice wings and is cute. No, the angels are terrible to behold. They are not frightening, but terrible in the sense that they are glorious and on fire with the love of God. If this angel appeared to you, you would be filled with fear, with terror. And yet, Our Lady, in humility, said, "Let it be done to me according to Thy word." Ever since that moment, all of humanity has been grateful to her for her humility.

It is that humility that we really have to celebrate today. It is not only the humility of Our Lady, it is the humility of God. Think about that: God, who is the Creator of all, today became created. God, who made His mother, took humanity within His mother and from His mother. God, who is all-powerful, became today this little, tiny, microscopic zygote in His mother.

What a beautiful feast to think about and to pray about the humility of God and the humility of the most exalted human creature that God made, who calls herself the humble handmaiden of the Lord. For us, it is a lesson we must learn: to be humble. Saint Paul makes it clear in his letter to the Romans that "Sacrifice, oblation, and holocausts you neither desired nor delighted in; but a body you have given me." It is because of this feast that Our Lord was able to go to the Cross. He had a sacrifice to offer: Himself in His humanity.

So when we look at the Cross and consider the humility of the Lord, when we look at all the things that He did and consider His humility, it all comes back to today: the humility of almighty God taking on our human nature in the womb of the most humble human person ever. Therefore, it lays out the pattern for us. If we are to take up our cross and follow in His footsteps, it means first of all to be humble. We must pray for humility. We must accept what that prayer will bring because humility comes through humiliation. We do not like that very well, but no virtue is possible without humility. It is the foundation for all of the spiritual life.

If we want to grow in holiness, if we want to be like Jesus, we must be humble. Today, above all days, we see the humility of Jesus Christ, God made flesh in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Note: Father Altier does not prepare his homilies in advance, but relies solely upon the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This text was transcribed from the audio recording with minimal editing.

2. The Wonderful Exchange

Tuesday March 25, 2003 Feast of the Annunciation Reading I (Isaiah 7:10-14) Reading II (Hebrews 10:4-10) Gospel (St. Luke 1:26-38)

Of all of the glorious feasts that we celebrate in the Church’s liturgical year, today is the top, because today is the day that we celebrate the Incarnation of the Word of God. Today is the day that we celebrate the fact that Jesus Christ took on our human flesh in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. God entered our world in a human form on this day, in a form just like any of us entered the world, in a way that we were not even able to be recognized yet as being seen with the naked eye, but fully human nonetheless. And the fact that God Himself would condescend to take on our human nature is something which boggles the mind, and it will continue to do so for all eternity. It is a mystery upon which we will meditate forever. We will never tire of it and we will never finish, we will never exhaust it; there will always be more because it is an infinite mystery dealing with the nature of God Himself.

But we see that in order to be filled with this mystery, each one of us must learn from Jesus and Mary as we look at what happened on this day some 2,000 years ago. On this day, Our Lord totally emptied Himself. As Saint Paul tells the Philippians, “He took the form of a slave.” He put aside everything that was of the glory of God and hid it behind our human flesh. He remained God fully, and yet He was willing to become one of us, to be so humble, to put Himself aside to the point that He would descend in a human form – something which is infinitely beneath what He is – and take on our nature to Himself. But before He could do that, He also had to find the most amazing person He had ever created: this astoundingly beautiful woman who had also emptied herself perfectly and completely of herself, and had filled herself completely with Him. So as she set aside her humanity to be filled with His divinity, He set aside His divinity to be completely filled with her humanity. And there was this wonderful exchange that happened: God became Man, and a woman became the Mother of God.

But in this same exchange, she is our mother and we are members of Him. And so like our mother, we must also learn to empty ourselves entirely and we must be filled with Jesus Christ. It is an astounding mystery to think about the fact that Mary had so perfectly and completely emptied herself and filled herself so completely and perfectly with God, that God could become flesh in her, that He Who had made her in His image and likeness would now be created in her image and likeness, that He Who is the Creator would become created in her. Now this exchange continues to happen. The more that we are willing to die to ourselves and to put aside all of the weakness of our humanity, the more we can be filled with Christ. Like Mary, we will remain human; like Jesus, He remained divine; but each one took to Himself or herself that which was not His or hers by nature. Mary became divine, and Jesus became human.

The same mystery happens in each one of us. It has already happened on the day of Baptism where we took on the divine nature and were united to Christ. It continues every day when we receive Holy Communion. And for every single person who is in the state of grace there is that union of the human and the divine. Unlike Jesus, Whose union was a substantial one, ours is merely accidental, but it is a real union nonetheless. And we want that union to grow, to develop, and to become perfect so that we will become like Our Lady, that is, so perfectly conformed to the divinity of Christ that it will no longer be us who lives but Christ Who lives in us. Saint Paul could say that it was Christ living in him. No one could say it as perfectly as Our Lady, who had Christ physically living in Her. But each one of us, when we receive Holy Communion, receives Jesus Christ – Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity – into ourselves so that it is truly Christ living in us.

Now we need to take that out from here so that it is not just for those few moments that Christ is within us sacramentally, and it is not merely that He is within us because of the Indwelling of the Trinity because we are in the state of grace, but that our life becomes His and He lives his life in us and through us by perfect conformity to Him. So again, we will see that wonderful exchange that we celebrate today in the most astounding way, and something similar will happen to us: As we are conformed to Jesus Christ, He conforms Himself to us; we become Christ and He becomes us, as He lives in us and through us in our lives. And this glorious mystery of the Incarnation, which continues daily in the Eucharist, will also find its daily fulfillment in each one of us where we conform ourselves to Christ; we die to ourselves and empty ourselves of all that is human and take on all that is divine. The divinity of Christ will then work through our humanity and this wonderful exchange will continue: that God becomes Man, and man becomes God.

This is one of the most inspiring passages in all of the Bible. I am constantly moved at the courage of this girl, and though she was created specifically without the stain of Adam's transgression in order that she might carry the Son of God, she was still asked if she would fulfill that role. She could have said no. But instead, she takes on the burden, "... be it unto me according to thy word."

Thank you, Our Blessed Mother.

Dear Freepers in Jesus and Mary,

Please Ping this List as tomorrow is the Feast of the Anunciation.

Grateful Thanks.

P.S.- Father Altier has preached for the Feast of the Anunciation only twice in the last 5 years. Homilies for the Feast of the Anunciation are not available for the Years 2002, 2004, and 2005 respectively.

I went through all of them before I posted this Thread, and I could only find Homilies for 2001 and 2003 respectively.

Dear Freepers in Christ,

My Apologies, I have just discovered that there is one more Homily that was preached for the Feast of the Anunciation by Father Altier in 2004.

I am so sorry for the oversight on my part. I had posted this Thread at 1.00 a.m. I. S. T. Friday Night.

My Next Thread will be on all the Homilies preached by Father Altier on Passion/Palm Sunday from 2001-2005.

That will be posted by me on Saturday, the 8th of April 2006.

In Jesus and Mary,

Happy Feast Day. May this Day bring all Catholics together under the mantle of Mary, Our Mother who truly brings us closer to Jesus Christ who is the Lord and Savior of our lives.

Here is the Homily. Feast of the Anunciation 2004.

Thursday March 25, 2004 Feast of the Annunciation

Reading I (Isaiah 7:10-14; 8:10)Reading II (Hebrews 10:4-10)

Gospel (St. Luke 1:26-38)

As we celebrate today the Feast of the Annunciation, we must remember also that really we celebrate the Feast of the Incarnation. Today is the day that God became man in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The divine condescension and the divine humility that is involved in this feast and in this mystery of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ is something which boggles the human mind. We cannot even begin to grasp how much God loves us and how much He is willing to do to be able to demonstrate that. We still like to go around thinking how horrible and worthless we are when God over and over again tries to make clear that it is not true. One could ask, “How much more evidence do we need other than the fact that God took on our human nature?” As Saint Paul makes very clear at the end of the second reading, we have been consecrated: By this will we have been consecrated through the offering of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Again, not only does God take our human nature to Himself, raising up our nature to a divine level and raising us up to a divine nature to act and to be in a divine manner, but He has consecrated each one of us. He has set us aside for a holy purpose. He has chosen us.

Now it does not make sense to us why this would happen, but try to make sense of why God would become a man. We are not going to make sense of that either. We still have all kinds of objections as to the idea that we would be able to be called by God, that we would be loved by God, that God would actually want us, sinners that we are, to do something extraordinary, or even to do something which is ordinary. Yet as the angel said to Our Lady: Nothing shall be impossible for God. If God is willing to become one of us, to come down to our level, to live a human life, to be within the holy and beautiful womb of Our Blessed Lady, and then of course to go through His Passion and Death for us, why would we think that He would not do anything else for us? Why do we think we are so bad that He would not want us? Look at what He has done for us.

What we need to focus on is how much God loves us, and just what He is willing to do to bring us to Himself. We know that there is an enemy who is trying to keep us from God, and yet God will do anything to be able to bring us to Himself. The only thing that God will not do is force us. He has given us a free will and we have to make a choice. He will not force us to do His Will; He will not force us to accept His love; we have to choose. And if we keep coming up with all the rationalizations as to why it cannot happen, then we have chosen Satan and all of his lies. Now we have to remember, of course, in what the devil is telling us there is certainly some truth. “Look at your sins! Look at how badly you’ve offended God! Look at what you’ve done! Look at this, look at that, look at the other thing!” Those things may all be true, but look at what the devil has done. He has gotten us to focus on ourselves and not on God. It is time that we get the focus where it belongs to look at Jesus and stop looking at ourselves.

Remember, those are the two eternal choices. Hell is going to be looking at yourself for the rest of eternity, and that really is a perfect description of hell. What a miserable existence! Focusing on ourselves for the rest of eternity! No hope, no possibility of ever getting out of it, nothing – because we cannot save ourselves. We have no ability within ourselves to overcome ourselves, so why do we want to focus on ourselves? If we want to do that, we are already doing exactly what the devil wants and we are preparing ourselves for eternity in hell. Why? Get the focus where it belongs, and that is on Jesus, Who can save us, Who can free us from our sinfulness and from ourselves, and Who wants us for Himself.

If we keep looking at it and saying, “It doesn’t make sense,” then we are heading the wrong direction. When Our Lady looked at the angel and said, basically, “It doesn’t make sense; how can this be?” the angel explained to her, “This is how it’s going to happen and nothing will be impossible for God.” Our Lady did not say, “Well, I don’t understand it, so therefore it can’t be; therefore, forget it.” She said, Be it done unto me according to Thy word. The Word of God is Jesus Christ. Let it be done to me according to Thy word, O God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us so that we could become God, so that we could share in the divine nature. He came to us so that we can come to Him. No, it does not make sense, and it never will because it is an act of love, not an act of reason. So quit trying to reason it out and figure it out because it will never happen. Just accept the love of God and put the focus where it belongs, on the Incarnation of Jesus Christ and on the salvation which follows from it, so that we can prepare ourselves by looking at Him for an eternity with Him. That is the only thing that matters. Accept God’s Will, accept His love, put the focus on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and prepare yourself for eternity with God.

Dear NYer and Fellow Freepers in Christ,

Many Thanks for your help on this Thread. This is the last Homily I was able to get that Father Altier has preached for the Feast of the Anunciation 2005.

Soory that I missed a couple earlier.

In Jesus and Mary,

Monday April 4, 2005 Feast of the Annunciation (Observed)

Reading I (Isaiah 7:10-14), Reading II (Hebrews 10:4-10)

Gospel (St. Luke 1:26-38)

As we celebrate today the Feast of the Annunciation, it is really the celebration of the Incarnation of Christ. So many people mistakenly think that the Incarnation took place on Christmas. It did not; it took place on the 25th of March. Now we are celebrating it today because the 25th of March fell during Holy Week, and so the Church transferred the feast to today. However, the Feast of the Annunciation is the day that Our Lord became flesh in the womb of His mother. As we heard the angel coming to our Blessed Lady and asking her if she would be willing to be the Mother of God, thanks be to God for Our Lady’s fiat: Let it be done to me according to thy word. It was in this that Our Lord became man.

He Who is God from all eternity, He Who is a Divine Person, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, humbled Himself and condescended to become one of us, to take our human nature to Himself. Not to become a human person, because He did not; He became a human being but not a human person. He is a Divine Person and He can only be one person. Therefore, since He is a Divine Person from all eternity, that did not change. What He did was to take a human nature to Himself. That means He took a human body that had human blood and a human soul. He did not take a human personality; He had His Divine personality. And so His Divinity was then united by a humanity, and the two in a substantial manner – the humanity and the Divinity of Christ – make up the perfect union of one Person. He is not two persons; He is one Person.

But in the Incarnation, He then has a Divine mind and He has a human mind. He has a Divine will and He has a human will. Two minds and two wills, but only one Person. So He can operate as God and He can operate as man. And in the perfection of the union of one Person, these two natures did not interfere with one another at all. They remained completely separate and unimpaired; they did not in any way interfere with one another’s working. But He was able, as only God could, to operate on two different levels in the perfect unity of one single Person. That is what we celebrate today: the feast of God becoming man, the feast of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ at the Annunciation.

And thanks be to God for our Blessed Lady, who, even though it did not make sense to her how she could conceive as a virgin, was willing to say “yes” so that the Holy Spirit, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, would have an opportunity to become life-giving in our Blessed Lady, so that the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, from Whom the Holy Spirit proceeds, would now be conceived in the womb of Our Lady through the power of the Holy Spirit.

This is an astounding thing, and it is something which we will meditate upon for the rest of eternity, assuming that we go the right direction. There will be no end to the meditation on the Incarnation because it is an absolute mystery, one which we will never be able to understand even in heaven. We can grasp parts of it, but because it deals with the Divine nature itself, we will never come to the end of it. The wonderful part, if you just want to ponder this one for awhile, is that even in His humanity Jesus does not understand the Incarnation perfectly. In His Divinity, He does; in His humanity, He does not. And so for all eternity, because it is an infinite mystery and His human nature is finite, He too will ponder this mystery of the Incarnation in His human nature, in His human mind, and will never understand it completely. In His Divinity, of course, He understands it fully and perfectly. So, for all eternity, we will be able to look at Jesus and we will never come to the end. There will always be more.

We can start now to place ourselves in front of the Blessed Sacrament, to look at Him Who is both God and man, and to meditate upon this mystery of our salvation, that mystery which began in the most full way at the moment of the Annunciation, when, thanks be to God, the grace was given to Our Lady to accept the humility of God and to say “yes” so that He would be conceived in her womb and we would be saved.

Dear Gerish,

Many Thanks for your Comments. I plan to post 3-4 more Threads on all the Homilies preached by Father Robert Altier for Passion/Palm Sunday from 2001-2005, as well as all Homilies preached by him on Holy Thursday/Maundy Thursday from 2001-2005, for Easter Vigil from 2001-2005, for Easter Sunday from 2001-2005 and finally for Divine Mercy Sunday from 2001-2005.

These are my immediate plans. Please pray for Father Altier that he may be permitted to publish his Homilies once more on "A Voice in the Desert".

As, you may have realized that Father Altier has a unique take on the Feast of the Anunciation. He is a powerful preacher and preaches stuff as he sees it.

Happy Belated Feast for the Solemnity of the Anunciation.

There are only 4 Homilies that he has preached in the last 5 Years for the Feast of the Anunciation.

In Christ,

Dear RKBA Democrat,

Thanks for taking the time out to visit this Thread. I pan to start other Threads in a Week's Time or Two Weeks time as I have indicated in my prior post to Gerish.

With regard to your question, "Are you typing the transcripts ?

Frankly Speaking and in all Honesty my answer is no. That is because All these Homilies preached by Father Altier from 2001-2006 are available at the following Link:

http://desertvoice.excerptsofinri.com

It is a Real Treasure Trove of all his Homilies in more ways than one. But, I am spending a lot of time in going through the Homilies on a specific Spiritual Topic and then formatting them and finally uploading them on FR.

For Eg, It was quite difficult to find all these Homilies for the Feast of the Anunciation, because last year the Feast of the Anunciation was celebrated in april and not on the 25th of March 2005 as it ususally is.

My Next Thread will be all the Homilies that Father Robert Altier has preached for Passion Sunday from 2001-2005.

It is my earnest prayer and hope that "A Voice in the Desert" will be up and running at least in 2-3 Months from now.

Or else, it will be up and running in maybe 6 months or a Year from now if this crap from the Archbishop continues.

Worst Case Scenario will be that "A Voice in the Desert" could start only once this Archbishop retires and that is 2 years from now since he will be 73 in May 2006 and the age of retirement is 75.

Please pray for Father Altier and for a "Voice in the Desert" which is run and maintained by a Catholic Family from Minneapolis who are Parishioners at Saint Agnes.

Dear sandyeggo,

Greetings from India. The Folks who run DesertVoice.org have nothing whatsoever to do with these Folks who run http://excerptsofinri.com.

I have been in regular touch with the Family who were also Third Order Carmelites since September 2005 and they have said to me on the email quite frequently over the last two weeks that they know of at least 4-6 mirror sites that have all of Father Altier's Homilies on it and these Web Sites are located in 3-4 States all across the United States.

They even said to me that they cannot legally or in any other way bar folks who have extracted Father Altier's Homilies off the Internet and then have created Mirror Sites on their own web sites -- simply because those Homilies were not CopyRight Protected in any way.

They said that these Homilies were free for anyone to download as they were available on the Internet and in a way it is good that is what they said to me quite clearly that there are Mirror Sites out there -- or else there wouldn't be a record of his Homilies and they would be lost to history forever given the fact that this ban on Father Altier could extend till the resignation or retirement of Archbishop Flynn.

Finally, The Folks who maintain http://desertvoice.excerptsofinri.com are a large group of Catholic Apologists which consist of 4 Families or so I am told.

Check out their main site http://excerptsofinri.com It is awesome as well as Colossal.

Dear Freepers in Christ, (nanetteclaret)

I need to ask you all for a Favor just anyone who reads this post.

After, I have posted Father Altier's Homilies on a Thread on a Specific Issue-- is there any one willing to come forward to help me with a Catholic Ping.

I am still a Novice at a Catholic Ping and it would free me up for other stuff.

For Example in the coming weeks I plan to collect all his Homilies on Specific Feast Days from 2001-2005 right up till Christmas 2006 this coming year and then post them as Threads a few days before the Feast Day or a few hours before the Solemnity.

FOR EG. Please check what i will be doing for "Passion Sunday". That will also give you all a idea about my plans for the future.

The Posts will be as per Indian Standard Time, therefore for you folks in the United States it may come up quite early.

My apologies for that but since I live in India I guess that is the way it will be.

Yes, you heard right. I will be posting Threads with Father Altier's Homilies continuously till December 2006, unless I leave the country in which case I will continue from where I last left off in India.

I just need your assistance here and there.

Please give me your feedback.

In Jesus and Mary,

Dear Freepers in Christ,

I have completed the "Father Altier Ping List" which will now go into operation on the 9th of April 2006-- Passion Sunday/Palm Sunday when I post a Thread on all the Homilies preached by Father Robert Altier for Palm Sunday from 2001-2005.

My next Thread after that will be on the 13th of April 2006 ie. Maundy Thursday/Holy Thursday on all Homilies again preached by Father Altier and so on and so forth.

In Christ,
