Another reason that you should be using the KJV Bible.

I have always believed in Jesus as Lord and Savior. I have not always believed that one version of the Bible is better until the last 10 years or so. I have always read from the Authorized King James Version. Most likely because the Lord did not want me to get my understanding from any other source.

As I have gotten closer to God over the years I have learned why the KJV is the best of the translations of the original Greek and Hebrew text. Some of the reasons are that the words of the Old English which seam difficult to read and understand at first are really the most descriptive and least confusing to understand as you read. Words like Longsuffering from the KJV have been translated into patience in the NIV. Now the word are pretty similar in the definitions, but the word longsuffering shows an inflection of pain while you endure. Patience does not imply this at all. You may be patient with the guy at the counter of the DMV, but you are long suffering with a loved one while you hope they change their ways.

There are many more examples of the pitfalls of the NIV, NKJV, KJ21, NASB to numerous to get into. And if you are not willing to examine and ask the Lord to help you discern the Truth of the matter then my post is falling upon deaf ears.

There is a good book called The Language of the King James Bible , Discover its Hidden Built in Dictionary, by Gail Riplinger. It is very informative on how to understand the Old English of the KJV Bible.

But on to why I posted in the first place if you go to these links you will learn how the publishers of the NIV are also the publisher of the Satanic Bible. Their Teen study Bible is very disturbing and worldly, even mocks the Bible in a hidden way.

So the Lord was King James?

Sorry for the smart alec reply but that was just begging for it. Honestly I use both the King James and the New English Version. I use the NEV mainly because it's easier to read and I understand it better. I do find I enjoy comparing the two versions to see the differences.

If you want accurate renderings of the original Hebrew and Greek texts, get an Amplified Bible.

It can get a little wordy, however. So if I just want to casually read, I enjoy most all versions...King James, New International, the Living Bible, plus a host of others.

on how to understand the Old English of the KJV Bible.

The KJV isn't written in Old English. It isn't even written in Middle English. It is in Early Modern English.

Here's a chunk of the Lord's Prayer in Old English:

1 [....]g fæder, þu þe on heofonum eardast,

2 geweorðad wuldres dreame. Sy þinum weorcum halgad
3 noma niþþa bearnum; þu eart nergend wera.
4 Cyme þin rice wide, ond þin rædfæst willa
5 aræred under rodores hrofe, eac þon on rumre foldan.
6 Syle us to dæge domfæstne blæd,
7 hlaf userne, helpend wera,
8 þone singalan, soðfæst meotod.
9 Ne læt usic costunga cnyssan to swiðe,
10 ac þu us freodom gief, folca waldend,
11 from yfla gewham, a to widan feore.

I just found one line in modern English:

Oure fader that art in heuenis halowid be thi name

King James is indeed better than all these, but for a complete Christian canon and lack of mariophobic mistranslations, use Douay-Rheims

So when Jesus says "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me" that he was really anticipating some pain at the thought of having to deal with the little snots?

Mariophibic? You mean that they don't acknowledge the co-mediatrix position of the "queen of heaven?"

1 Jeremias 7 Found phrase

18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to offer libations to strange gods, and to provoke me to anger.

2 Jeremias 44 Found phrase

17 But we will certainly do every word that shall proceed out of our own mouth, to sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we and our fathers have done, our kings, and our princes in the cities of Juda, and in the streets of Jerusalem: and we were filled with bread, and it was well with us, and we saw no evil.

3 Jeremias 44 Found phrase

18 But since we left off to offer sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword, and by famine.

4 Jeremias 44 Found phrase

19 And if we offer sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and pour out drink offerings to her: did we make cakes to worship her, to pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?

5 Jeremias 44 Found phrase

25 Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel, saying: You and your wives have spoken with your mouth, and fulfilled with your hands, saying: Let us perform our vows which we have made, to offer sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her: you have fulfilled your vows, and have performed them indeed.

I use The Living Bible on CD mostly. It's the one I can read the easiest and these days for me that means a lot. Then I have NCV translation a very dear friend a Seventh Day Adventist gave me and NKJV translation. So if I read a Bible translated in Spanish would it be the KJV or the Spanish KJV? There will always be some discrepancies in all translations.

Has anyone ever stopped to think that these newer translations which most do keep the actual Gospel intact is to fulfill prophecy that the Gospel must be preached to all nations before Christ Second Coming? That travel and knowledge must increase?

Next point is as older scripts are found {Dead Sea Scrolls} or any written text during the era of 2000 years ago is located it sheds more light on translation.

But here perhaps is the clincher. You can read the Bible and learn it's words but The Holy Spirit allows you to learn or teaches the truths held in those words and their true meaning.

As I have gotten closer to God over the years I have learned why the KJV is the best of the translations of the original Greek and Hebrew text.

How can that be if we have discovered far better and in most cases older texts of both the Greek and Hebrew Bible than they had when the KJV was translated" Furthermore, I presume you have studied and have a working knowledge of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek to make your determination that the KJV is the best translation, correct?

Know your homophones, amigo ... it's what separates us from the savages!

And the KJV is not in "Old English," which went out of use in (roughly) 1250. (For reference, Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" is in Middle English.) The KJV uses Jacobean English, which is slightly more modern than Shakespeare's Elizabethan version.

Yes, I know it's President's Day in the land of PC, but it's a school day here!

Knowledge certainly has increased in the last century...And I do believe the Gospel has been preached worldwide...

Usually in our bible studies, we will have several people with different translations. When we read scripture, normally were asked if anyone has a different translation than that of the study notes.

KJV was just very difficult for me to retain. NIV is a much easier translation and reflects the language of today.

We did do a brief study on the translation from Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, Latin and English. The problem is that even the KJV does not adequately translate some text. There are some words in these languages that just don't translate directly so the authors of the various translations tried to describe in English as close as they linguistically could.

huh?

The writer of the piece, in his ignorance, said that the King James Version was difficult for some folks because it was written in Old English. Folks like that give tranditionalist theologians a bad name.

As I noted, the KJV was written in Early Modern English, as was the Geneva Bible. I attached excerpts written in Old English and in Middle English (think of the English classes where you had to read Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in the original form) so that folks could see how off base the writer was.

I humbly thank you for correcting me.

Though you do not even mention anything about the publisher of the NIV is also the publisher of a Satanic Bible. That their Teen Bibles down play sex, teach homosexuality, etc... That there were homosexuals on the edit who clearly do not adhere to the Bible. So in supporting the NIV it could be said one is guilty of supporting these sins by proxy.

Please excuse me if I gave you a bad name.
May God bless you.

Got it, thanx.

I just remember as a young man attempting to absorb the new testament via the KJV. Man oh man, I felt so bad that I just couldn't get it.

I'd read the hither's, thereunto's, verily verily's and all that and my head would start swimming.

But I bet you picked up on modern slang pretty quickly, huh?

BTW there are 4 verses with "thereunto" in the KJV New Testament and 23 with "hither".
