CALLER: I'd like to know what your position is on gay marriage.

R.H. SCHULLER: I am addicted to excellence, totally committed to excellence. That's where I'm coming from. It's a different position on this and any time there's a controversy, choose the interpretation that is more excellent.

It would be nice to categorize him someplace in Christianity, because he uses a lot of Jesus talk, but he is not an arminian or a calvinist.

(Many will come to me saying "Lord, Lord....")

How are you, sister?

My point is, are we being careful to be consistent in our application?

Christians have never been consistent. The book of James is written specifically to inconsistent people who failed to treat people as equals. You certainly will NOT find consistency among Christians or the application of God’s word. It’s like someone once said:

The church is nothing more than a bunch of sinners who recognize that fact. If a person doesn’t recognize that point why do they even want to be around except perhaps for the pot lucks and free doughnuts on Sunday? Trouble is many churches today don't recognize that fact and churches have become country clubs.

Schuller does not preach the lostness, repentance, forgiveness, salvation.... Therefore, he is no Arminian.

He demonstrates the natural progression of Arminianism.

I am well X, I hope all is well with you too !

As for placing him somewhere I will only say that Satan can quote scripture, so using the name jesus is not much evidence of his own faith.

In which case, his calvinist roots demonstrates the natural progression of calvinism.

Why are we doing this?

****The man is unsaved from what I can discern, he is loved by all the other unsaved that want heaven here on earth and to prosper with possibility thinking****

I agree. BTW, John MacArthur was on the local christian radio show here last saturday. He's got a new book out called 12 extraordinary women.

"...which holds that all religious truth taught in the Bible is true from God, but each word is not necessarily interpreted literally."

This is what disturbs me about these "feel-good" preachers. THEIR interpretations. Just where does it state in the Bible ...this part is not too be taken literally?

Splendid Post

Have you, by chance, ever listened to the White Horse Inn?

I agree with you completely. However, as some have rightfully cautioned me it is impossible to sort all these things out. It's not black-and-white or a balancing act but shades of grays in which we live.

In the end all you can do is look to your own relationship with our Lord Jesus, studying yourself to be approved. Christianity to me is an interspective belief meant to help us cleanse our own lifes which, for me, is a full time activity. If that is accomplish everything else will take care of itself.

I agree.

John MacArthur had a sermon I heard where he said the churches do not preach on heaven anymore, the focus is to now attract people by promising them "heaven on earth".

Every thing is about the here and now,be healthy , happy ,wealthier and wise, just accept Christ and he will answer all your dreams and aspirations.

So few really teach that we are SINNERS saved by Gods grace and for His glory with any real conviction. Mostly it is a rote presentation of the gospel and the sinners prayer, Then come the really GOOD stuff. The "it's about you "gospel.
