Jesus Christ a King of Glory has come in peace.
God became Man, and the Word was made flesh.
Christ was born of a Virgin.
Christ suffered.
Christ was crucified.
Christ died.
Christ rose from the dead.
Christ ascended into Heaven.
Christ conquers.

Holy Powerful God!
Holy Immortal God!
Have mercy on us. Amen!

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

I was going to post this one this morning...just wasn't fast enough!

For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Sts. Jude and Rita, pray for us!

An old hymn that feels appropriate today:

Master, the tempest is raging!
The billows are tossing high!
The sky is o’ershadowed with blackness
No shelter or help is nigh
Carest Thou not that we perish?
How canst Thou lie asleep
When each moment so madly is threatening
A grave in the angry deep?

The winds and the waves obey Thy will
Peace, be still! Peace, be still!
Whether the wrath of the storm tossed sea
Or demons or men, or whatever it be
No waters can swallow the ship where lies
The Master of ocean, and earth, and skies
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will
Peace, be still! Peace, be still!
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will
Peace, peace, be still!

Heavenly Father, we come humbly before you recognizing you as the Master of the Universe and this Earth upon which we live. You ultimately are in control of the winds and the waves, as you showed so clearly through Christ's command to the storm to "Be still," and it obeyed. We also recognize that you have a purpose behind what you allow to take place, even though some things seem as tragedies to us.

And so we ask in Jesus' Name that if it be your will that you will calm this storm or divert it out of harms way. We ask your mercy on those in the path of this storm, and if you have some purpose in allowing it, we ask your grace for those who are facing it in one way or another, and for their friends and loved ones who anxiously watch with them.

Show the rest of us what you may want us to do to allay the suffering of our fellow humans. Bless those who are opening their homes and offering transporation. Protect those who are evacuating, and those who are staying. Give each one special wisdom to know what preparations to make, what to take, and what to leave behind.

I ask all of this in Jesus' Name, Amen.

To: All

another hymn that feels right:

Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Wilt Thou not regard my call? Wilt Thou not accept my prayer?
Lo! I sink, I faint, I fall—Lo! on Thee I cast my care;
Reach me out Thy gracious hand! While I of Thy strength receive,
Hoping against hope I stand, dying, and behold, I live.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want, more than all in Thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is Thy Name, I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin I am; Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart; rise to all eternity.

If this is as bad as expected, we'll all need to pray for the future.

Prayers for the evacuees and all those living in Galveston, Houston, Corpus Christi, and anyone else who might be in the path of the storm.

Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy,
Lord have mercy.

Lord, graciously hear us.

Hear us, O Lord,
and let our cry come unto you,
cries for you children
under the threat of disaster.

In your mercy, O Lord,
preserve those facing the brunt of the storm.

You told us to ask,
to pray,
to have faith.
This day, we ask you to speak the word,
as you did on the sea of Galilee,
and still the storm.

Preserve us all, always,
and keep us safe under your wing.
Teach us to know that you are our first shelter,
our steadfast Rock.

May we in turn, learn to love you more.

In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

The voice of the LORD is upon the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the LORD, upon many waters.

The voice of the LORD is powerful,
the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars,
the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
 He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf,
and Si'rion like a young wild ox.

The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness,
the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
 The voice of the LORD makes the oaks to whirl,
and strips the forests bare;
and in his temple all cry, "Glory!"

 The LORD sits enthroned over the flood;
the LORD sits enthroned as king for ever.
 May the LORD give strength to his people!
May the LORD bless his people with peace!

From Psalm 29
