I thought he'd made some sort of remarks to that effect, but in the speech referenced in the article it sounded like he'd back-tracked to the usual liberal obeisance to non-Western "indigenous pipples."
One of the many contradictions of contemporary Leftism is its rigorous scientism towards what it perceives as "reactionary" Western beliefs and its fanatical embrace of anything and everything "indigenous." Even science itself, so liberating when used to club the Southern Baptist Convention, has been decried as a Western conceit that must yield to the mythologies of current beneficiaries of the Left's "benevolence."
I still wonder why atheist liberals and Fundamentalist Blacks never get offended at each other. All the insults aimed at chr*stianity over the past year have gone unanswered and unprotested by the Black church and liberal politicians who hate chr*stianity regularly make the rounds to Black churches that are basically no different from hillbilly snake-handlers in their beliefs. Then of course there's the tender solicitude so many atheists have for Fundamentalist Black churches in the South whenever rumors of church burning arise.
I guess as long as Fundamentalist Blacks vote for politicians who support the Leftist agenda, and so long as that agenda pays lip service to anachronistic, pre-1954 concerns, neither party in the alliance cares what the other believes. That doesn't really speak well of the "idealism" of either partner.
APOSTASY ALERT!
Almost redundant with "Spong" in the title...
