To be fair, "prophesy" also means standing up for God when no one else does.

This idea that it means foretelling the future is not legitimate. The prophets of the Old Testament told His people what God would do if they reneged on their word time and again.

You also ought to know that the common understanding of prophecy as future telling is

of the VERY VALID AND VERY BIBLICAL MEANINGS OF THE TERM. To deny that is to deny basic scholarship and basic dictionary meanings which have been true from the original languages to our time.

It is a deceptive cop-out, rationalization, plain untruth etc to assert that the only meaning of prophecy, to prophecy or to be aprophet is FORTH TELLING of The Gospel.
